UTB cultural quiz winners to bag a million shillings
The government will recognize the best schools and students that will emerge winners in the culture quiz competition taking place at the end of July.
A school quiz for both primary and secondary schools has been organised as part of activities to celebrate the three days’ International Uganda Cultural Fair.
“Culture preserves and provides knowledge, which is essential for the physical and intellectual existence of man,” said deputy Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Tourism Board, John Sempebwa at a press conference this week.
He added, “Culture preserves knowledge and helps its transmission from generation to generation. Culture directs and confines the behavior of an individual. In many cases, culture has provided much need employment amidst biting unemployment.”
The best schools will win trophies and top students are to each bag one million shillings as well being accompanied by a teacher to a cultural tour.
“Whereas culture plays such an important role in society, we are witnessing its erosion because our children are frequently exposed to foreign cultures through the internet and television,” Sempebwa said.

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities through its tourism-promotion agency, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), in collaboration with Perfect Events are organising the schools’ cultural awareness quiz competition.
The event will take place at Uganda Museum from 29th to 31st July and schools have been invited take part by nominating two students.
According to the organisers, participation is free of charge. The quiz sections will include food, drinks, dances and entertainment.
