Total Uganda reaches out to 437 disabled children

In an effort to promote access to education, Total Uganda, a leading oil and gas company, yesterday gave out assorted scholastic items to 437 children of Bethlehem and Good Shepherd homes in Kampala.

The children, most of whom are orphans with multiple disabilities, are under the Missionaries of the Poor, a non-government organization which seeks to address the needs of some of Kampala’s poorest people.

While handing over the scholastic materials at the children’s orphanage home in Busega and Kisenyi today, the Total Uganda Human Resource and Administration Manager, Ms. Susan Kirule Nampala, said Total Uganda prides itself on promoting access to education through the provision of assorted materials to the vulnerable children.

“We are handing over scholastic items to the vulnerable children with hope that the items will assist them in learning at school,” Nampala said.

“Our actions are consistent with the interests of society and we aim to contribute to the development of the communities where we are working,” Nampala said.

She said Total’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) priorities include road safety, education, health, access to energy, economic development, and environmental protection. “As Total Uganda, we are committed to meeting the needs of the vulnerable in society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

Early this year, Total Uganda adopted a new corporate identity for all its stations which is in line with their commitment to reinvent and refresh themselves with better and more innovative services for the customers.

The company has improved the image of its service stations into a more contemporary and environmentally friendly look. It has embarked on the rollout of the new service stations’ visual which is expected to be completed by 2016.

Total Uganda has carried out other CSR initiatives including health and safety projects such as “Safe Way right Way”, “United against Malaria” and blood donation drives in association with the Indian Association of Uganda and the Uganda Red Cross.

Through our peer educators, the company also conducts HIV/AIDS programmes for its staff, customers, and transporters.
