Thomas Tayebwa distances himself from Speakership job despite numerous calls from colleagues
Government Chief Whip Hon Thomas Tayebwa who showed interest in the Speakership job 11th Parliament last year has ruled out contesting again this year amidst demise of Speaker Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah who died on Sunday in Seattle, US.
Hon. Thomas Tayebwa who doubles as Government Chief Whip and MP Ruhinda North County said despite receiving numerous calls from colleagues and friends to contest for the position of the speaker, he will not contest.
“I wish to thank you Honorable colleagues for the calls you have made to me to contest for the position of Speaker of Parliament after the unfortunate passing of our senior Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This shows you appreciate the work we are doing and it energises us to do more. However, I want to inform you that I WILL NOT BE EXPRESSING INTEREST FOR THE POSITION OF SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT. I call on Honorable colleague members of Parliament and the nation to remain united as we mourn our fallen hero,” Hon Thomas Tayebwa said.
