The Figure Bombshell show set to rock The Square Place

The Figure Bombshell is a campaign created to pave the way for curvy and fuller-figured women in Uganda. The rationale is to pioneer a market segment for plus-size women within the Uganda fashion industry where this campaign is kick-starting spearheaded by UK based Ugandan Fashion Designer Doreen Faith who is back with a bang.  The Figure Bombshell event is slated to take place 6th December 2018 starting from 6:00PM at The Square Place.

For decades Major catwalks in London, Milan, New York and Paris have been flooded with stick thin models who don’t actually appeal to the everyday woman. Of recent, the west has tried to tackle this issue by putting size plus women at the forefront but there’s still so much never ending controversy and taboo surrounding this matter amid fashion houses who choose to use curvy women as models.

Today, the modelling world and designers in the high-end fashion market think that clothes still look better on small models, who at times portray an unhealthy image. However, I disagree strongly with their perception because the average size for women is a size 16. This is a size of a relatively big, healthy and of a fuller-figured woman. So as someone whose career is based in this industry and with a profound interest for fashion I felt compelled to create the ‘The Figure Bombshell’ campaign.

I have observed that this problem is not just only in the western world where I live but here in Africa too. Designers or fashion houses here are not using big women to model their clothes yet the typical African woman who would buy their clothes is a big woman. I am a curvy woman too, I have enough of everything; boobs, thighs and booty so therefore, it was natural for me to become an advocate for curvy and size plus women in Africa, says Doreen Faith, the brains behind the campaign.

The campaign is created to empower, educate and encourage curvy women to be body confident and feel good about themselves and know that clothes don’t just look good on smaller people only. Size plus women can all look good in the clothes showcased on the catwalks and through this campaign I hope that women will learn what suits and compliments their sizes or shapes and get to embrace all the things on their bodies that society likes to call ugly.

The Figure Bombshell fashion event will be challenging the Uganda fashion industry to embrace fuller-figured women as they portray an image which is desirable and healthy.

The Figure Bombshell will be annual event occurring every year in Uganda, created with the aim to strengthen and take the Uganda fashion industry to a new height.

The Figure Bombshell campaign will launch to the public with a charity fashion show event featuring curvy women who will be modelling and showcasing a range of women’s wear clothing from fashion house, Dare.

We have partnered with Smart Girls Foundation where 10% of the ticket sales proceeds from the fashion show will be awarded. Smart Girls Foundation is a non-profit, girl centred, national organisation that empowers and mentors girls to speak out, be decision makers and create visionary change.
