    West Ankole Diocese Bishop accepts CAD to progress

    The Bishop of West Ankole Diocese (WAD) Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni has referred the proposed Central Ankole Diocese (CAD) verification to the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee (PASC).

    In the 14th November 2022 letter addressed to the Diocesan Council which this website saw, Bishop Twinomujuni said that he received a requesting letter from the Christians of Sheema District that West Ankole Diocese allows them to continue with their development on ground as they wait to be granted a diocesan status.

    In the letter, the christians requested that he contacts the Province to reinstate its position because they  (Christians) believe that CAD is not affected by the recent Provincial Assembly pronouncement of a suspension of developments in Kabwohe.

    The Bishop also states that indeed the Province doesn’t stop development in Sheema but the propagators must comply with the provincial assembly resolutions and follow proper procedures as guided by the Synod.

    He further said that the Province shall not consider any matter that doesn’t pass through the Diocesan Synod, and that matters of the church shall be handled within, and through church structures.

    He says that for Sheema to get a diocesan status God-willing, they will need to go through the church structures by complying with the procedures set by the diocesan council and Synod.

    The Bishop proposes that as per the 11th Synod resolutions, the Christians of Sheema shall still submit their proposal to the diocesan council a list of 20 names in the next diocesan council or synod. Thereafter the verification committee shall be launched and be given terms of reference, and it will be given to carry out activities of CAD.

    “That the Committee shall report back to this Council or Synod. Then the Synod after assessing the readiness of Sheema Area by its verification committee, shall submit the application to the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee (PASC),” the letter reads in part.

    It should be noted that on 1st February 2018, Sheema district re-submitted its application for a diocese, after the first submission in 1994.

    Sheema Christians insist the their quest for the new Diocese is genuine and have already fulfilled most needs.

    West Ankole Diocese Education Stakeholders get Management Skills

    More than 200 West Ankole Diocese Primary Schools stakeholders/managers including Head teachers, School Management Committee members, PTA, Board of Governors, etc are attending a one day sensitization workshop at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Bweranyangi, the West Ankole diocesan headquarters as one way of encouraging them to take up their roles with greater commitment, all aiming at revamping the strength of Church founded schools.

    The workshop comes after a realisation by West Ankole Diocesan authorities that schools are underperforming and breaking down due to lack of ownership, and if sensitized, School managers can own their schools and cause them to excel.

    The participants are being re-tooled with management skills that will very soon, see West Ankole Diocese schools skyrocket to greatness and swim in glory.

    The lead facilitator of the day, Mr. Usher Besigye, the deputy head teacher, Mbarara Municipal School says managers of these schools ought to play their roles in relation to academic performance. He encourages school managers to:

    Set achievable guiding principles.

    Stick to core values like God fearing and team spirit.

    Set targets that can be owned by all parties including staff and pupils.

    Hold regular and productive meetings to identify possible loopholes and provide solutions

    Design supervision tools as standard measure in management.

    Involve parents in decision making, bearing in mind that they are chief financiers of schools.

    By the time workshop ends, participating School managers will be able to take up their roles and take deliberate steps towards the smooth running of the schools, and West Ankole diocese will continue to shine as far as education is concerned.

    It’s a new dawn at West Ankole Diocese in Western Uganda gets a new bishop. Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni was yesterday consecrated and installed as the 4th Bishop of West Ankole Diocese at Bweranyangi, Bushenyi.

    The Consecration Service was presided over by His Grace the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stanley Ntagali. The Main celebrant was Rt. Rev Dr. Sheldon Mwesigye, the Bishop of East Ankole Diocese.

    Bishop Sheldon had a brilliant outing as he kept the Christians in good cheer cracking a good joke here and there and yet adhering to the order of service which remarkably ended at 12.45PM.

    Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni takes over from Retired Bishop Yona Katonene whose reign caused sharp divisions in the diocese and almost led to a breakaway diocese.

    President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the chief guest and this is what he told the gathering, “I congratulate the diocese of West Ankole for getting themselves out of chaos that has been prevailing and electing a new bishop from among themselves.

    I was happy to learn that the Christians have united this time and elected a bishop.

    Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School where the function happened is familiar territory. In 1965, I was offered a temporary teaching job here by the head teacher, Ms Hall.

    On the development front, the government has already identified a contractor to reconstruct the Katunguru-Ishaka road that is in terrible state.

    I thank the archbishop for talking about improving household income. I appeal to the church leadership to establish parish based poverty eradication programmes, that can work in tandem with Operation Wealth Creation.

    People of Bushenyi should desist from encroaching on wetlands. I have talked to the leaders here so that we find a way of restoring the ones already destroyed but no more encroachment should happen”.

    West Ankole Diocese seeks for Shs 426m for the new bishop consecration

    West Ankole Diocese is seeking for Shs 426m for Consecration function of the new bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Rev. Canon Johnson Twinomujuni.

    The Rev. Canon Johnson Twinomujuni was last month elected the 4th Bishop of West Ankole Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 28th May 2017 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Bweranyangi, Bushenyi. He will succeed the Most. Rev. Stanley Ntagali, who has been the Acting Bishop of the Diocese since the Rt. Rev. Yonah Katonene retired in October 2016.

    The function will be presided over by The Most. Rev. Stanley Ntangali with HE President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to be the Chief Guest.

    An 8 member committee has been formed to mobilise for the funds and Organise the function. The committee is headed by Bushenyi Woman MP who also doubles as the Minister in charge of General Duties in the office the Prime Minister, Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut and Prof. Ephrahim Kamuntu who also doubles as Sheema South County MP and Minister of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities. Other members on the committee are; Robert Korutaro Treasurer, Yese Mubangizi secretary and Coordinators are Winston Katushabe Bashaasha, Philip Murwani, Mesach Katusiime and Mesach Nuwabiine Bagarukayo.

    Preparatory meetings are ongoing at Hotel Africana and the remaining meetings are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 16th May and Tuesday 23rd May.

    The Rev. Canon Johnson Twinomujuni has been elected the 4th Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Showbiz Uganda can confirm. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 28th May 2017 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Bweranyangi, Bushenyi. He will succeed the Most. Rev. Stanley Ntagali, who has been the Acting Bishop of the Diocese since the Rt. Rev. Yonah Katoneene retired in October 2016.

    Canon Twinomujuni was born in 1968 in Muko, Rwebishekyo, Rwanyamahembe, Kashaari, Mbarara District. He was born again on 15th August 1986 during a mission at his church in the school holiday. The missioners were taking lunch in his parents’ home. As he was serving them, they asked if he was saved. He was not; but, then, he clearly heard the Lord convict him that persisting in sin was not only wrong, but foolish. He then prayed with them to receive Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour.

    After completing S4, he began full-time ministry as a Youth Worker in Rutooma Archdeaconry, during which time he also completed a Certificate in Theology at Kinoni Divinity College. In 1992 he completed teacher training at Bishop Stuart Core PTC, where he also met his wife, Joy. They were married in 1992 and both began teaching at Rutooma Integrated Primary School.

    In 1994, Canon Twinomujuni was admitted to the African Bible College in Malawi where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree, First Class, in Biblical Studies, with a minor in Communications. Upon returning to Uganda, he was ordained a deacon in December 1998, and a priest in December 1999, and returned to Bishop Stuart PTC as a Chaplain, as well as serving Kibingo Parish as their parish priest.

    In 2002, Canon Twinomujuni completed a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, USA, and returned to Ankole Diocese to serve as the Diocesan Missions Coordinator. In 2004, he was appointed to Uganda Bible Institute, a theological college he helped establish, and where he currently serves as Principal.

    In 2013, Canon Twinomujuni completed his second Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University.

    Canon Twinomujuni has also served as Chaplain at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, a part-time lecturer at Bishop Stuart University, and many other positions of leadership in Ankole Diocese and the Province. Canon Twinomujuni enjoys spending time with his family, writing songs, playing the piano, making friends, and writing books.

    Canon Twinomujuni is married to Joy Twinomujuni, a teacher, and they have six children.

    The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre on 20th April 2017.

    He comes into the diocese that was left divided by Bishop Yonna Katonene and his first task is to heal the wounds left behind.
