    Roko signs Contract to build NPA Home

    In a major breakthrough, Roko Construction Ltd has signed a new contract to build National Planning Authority (NPA) home.

    The contract that will see Roko build the 20-storey planning house was signed was signed on May 7th at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development headquarters in Kampala.

    The Executive Director of National Planning Authority, Joseph Muvawala signed on behalf of NPA with Roko leadership led by Managing Director, Mark Koeller in the presence of Ministry of finance leadership.

    The Planning House will be located at plot 17B, Clement Hill Road in Kampala Central.
    The Under Secretary/Accounting Officer Ministry of Finance, planning & economic Development, Dr.Sengonzi Damulira and other technical staff witnessed the ceremony.
    The proposed 20-storey building will encompass a total area of 19,250 square
    meters, with four dedicated parking levels.

    The facility will feature modern amenities such as office spaces for all NPA directorates, conference facilities, a health and fitness centre, registry and archive facilities, boardrooms, training facilities, library and documentation centre.

    The signing is a major milestone for Roko Construction who have already successfully completed the construction of Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development headquarters.
    The handover ceremony will take place next month. Roko is also undertaking the construction of parliament of Uganda.

    However, the project has been delayed by change in designs to accommodate bomb and bullet modifications, but all works are on course now to enable the 12th Parliament use the facilities.

    KACITA Asks Gov’t to Declare the 3 Months Lockdown a Loss in regards to Rent Obligations

    Traders under their umbrella body, Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) have asked government to declare the three-month COVID-19 lockdown as a loss to the entire economy.

    This is in order to cushion tenants whose merchandise shops were locked following the lockdown from rent obligations.

    The call has been made today by KACITA Spokesperson, Issa Sekito today while appearing before Parliament’s Committee on the National Economy headed by former Finance Minister Syda Bbumba.

    He also called for a waiver on rental income tax obligations for the three months so that it becomes credit against the forfeited rent.

    “Why we think this is possible is that for every bank to give you money, forget about collateral; the most important thing is cashflow. Therefore, if I can’t have my cashflow (in order), what is it am I going to pay for even if you restructured my loan?” he said

    John Kakungulu, the Executive Director at Federation Of Small And Medium Sized Enterprises called on government to clear all domestic arrears to enable the most hit businesses utilize this money to keep afloat.

    On his part, Charity Kiyemba, the Secretary of Uganda Alcohol Association noted that starting July 2020, manufacturers are expected to start paying for digital tax stamps, a thing she said will negatively affect their businesses.

    Kiyemba said that companies involved in brewing alcohol will be required to pay 15 billion to meet the digital stamps expenditure, noting that once this is done, they will transfer the bills to the consumer.

    She added that the last time taxes were increased on beer, the consumption reduced by 72%.

    Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi Sempala seems to have lost trust in the government and opposition leaders. The Member of Parliament who is apparently a member of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said voters have grown weary of threadbare recitations common to both opposition and NRM government.

    She said the country needs solutions based on hard evidence not ideological correctness. The legislator expressed her points while posting on her Facebook page today. Below is her statement on the matter of the national importance;

    Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, “With the 2016 national campaigns approaching, my fervent hope is that voters have grown weary of the threadbare recitations common to both opposition and NRM. They should instead demand pragmatic, creative and courageous approaches that bypass the tiresome populist slogans. This campaign will be wasted if voters continue to hear about the dreary social issues and the virtues of never, never raising taxes, and about candidates “who will fight for people like you.” Oh, please!  [adrotate banner=”3″]
