  • Jambojet back after 6 years

Jambojet has resumed daily flights between Nairobi and Entebbe, Uganda after a six-year break.

In a statement on Thursday, October 1, Jambojet said the return of the daily flights marks a new chapter for the carrier and another connection between Kenya and Uganda.

“Your direct, hassle-free route between Kenya and Uganda is officially open. Whether you are flying for business, a family creating unforgettable memories across the border, or a lifestyle traveler stepping out for a well-deserved getaway.

“Whatever your reason to fly, Jambojet is now your daily direct bridge connecting Kenya and Uganda,” Jambojet stated.

According to the airline, the Nairobi-Entebbe flight will depart Nairobi at 9:30 AM and arrive in Entebbe at 11:00 AM. The return flight will depart Entebbe at 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Nairobi at 1:30 PM.

Jambojet also said the one-way fare from Nairobi to Entebbe will start from $170 (Ksh 22,950).

The airline will also introduce cargo and parcel operations on the route, boosting trade between Kenya and Uganda.

Speaking on August 27, Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa said the resumption of daily flights between Kenya and Uganda reflects the airline’s broader ambition to make air travel more accessible while strengthening regional integration.

“Our return to Uganda is a strategic step forward in our mission to strengthen regional connectivity. We see significant opportunities to support business, tourism and trade between Kenya and Uganda while providing travelers with an affordable, reliable and convenient flying experience that Jambojet is known for,” said Ndegwa.

Jambojet first entered the Ugandan market in 2018 as part of its regional expansion strategy.

However, the airline suspended flights in June 2020 following the Covid 19 pandemic, which resulted in a decline in demand, prompting it to focus on the Kenyan market.

Jambojet’s return to the Entebbe route comes months after the airline expanded its active fleet to 11 aircraft.

Bebe Cool’s Cheque debuts on BBC 1XtraBebe

Bebe Cool has been busy in Nairobi. The artist arrived in Kenya on Tuesday morning to promote his new album Break the Chains and after a brief press conference, he embarked on a media tour.

While appearing on Kiss FM’s one of the oldest radio stations in Kenya on Wednesday, the artist decried Nairobi’s traffic which he said that unlike Uganda, this can’t be avoided.
“In Uganda you can get a lead car and move like a VIP but in Nairobi, you have to sit through the traffic whether you want it or not,” he said in a conversation with Muchina and Cyd, the presenters.

While in Nairobi, videos of the artist visiting different media houses have been making rounds with the best being him with a group of students from Mitaboni Abc Girls School singing the song.

in an interview with Remmy Majala on K24’s Amka Vibe Cheque, he says that he worked with Joshua Baraka to introduce him to his older generation fanbase and for Baraka in turn to introduce Bebe to the Gen-Z audience.

Besides Bebe Cool’s media campaign however, a lot has been taking place outside Nairobi and one of these is him debuting on BBC 1Xtra on Monday.Bebe Cool and Joshua Baraka’s Check on Monday made its debut on DJ Edu’s official mix on BBC 1Xtra.

The song which has since proven to be a favourite for many received a refix as it made its debut. DJ Edu remixes the song and gives it an urban London electronic music sound, making it even more palatable for a wider audience.

But this is not the first time Bebe Cool and Edu’s BBC 1Xtra are crossing paths, the first time may have been 2015, when Bebe Cool’s rendition of Philly Lutaaya’s Born in Africa was ranked as one of the best songs from the continent.
Then they collaborated on Games, one of the songs on Break the Chains and now this, debuting Check, also on the album on his show.

So far, many media personalities in Kenya pick Check, Motivation and African Love alongside Yemi Alade as their biggest songs on the album.Bebe Cool’s African tour started in Kenya and soon, he will be headed to Tanzania and later Rwanda, South Africa and Nigeria among others.

CS for Sports, Culture & Heritage Amina Mohammed urges Artistes, Actors & Musicians to submit their works for “Work For Pay” KHS 100M Stimuli package

Nairobi, Kenya: The Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage, Ambassador Amina Mohammed has called upon all artists, actors and musicians represented across the country to submit their works for the “Work for Pay” Kshs. 100 million stimuli package provided by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta to cushion the creative industry during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.  These were her sentiments during the burial of renowned Legend John Nzenze’s burial over the weekend read by former MCSK ChairmanBernard Mukaisi Iganga.

In her tribute to the fallen maestro, The CS said, “John Nzenze will be remembered as the musician who pioneered African twist with among others, the single ‘Angelike Twist‘. His recordings will forever be an inspiration to all his peers and should inspire young and upcoming musicians and artists.” “We will miss his great performances but all those he motivated will keep his vision alive through each small action we take towards enabling a better music and cultural industry.” She added.

The CS has also encouraged artistes to put in submissions in support of John Nzenze’s legacy which will stand as a resounding example to all the musicians,  who revered Nzenze  as an inspiration.

The Ministry has engaged the private sector, artists and the entire industry in discussions to review and enhance the effectiveness and commercial value of music production.

To this end, we have designated the Permanent Presidential Music Commission as a key resource in this endeavor. Our goal is to expand their studios to accommodate many more artists in affordable high quality vocal, instrumental training and production. So far, PPMC has mentored more than 10,000 musicians since August last year and will continue to do more to spread creation resources to all 47 Counties, particularly those with a critical mass of legendary composers and vocalists.

In order to streamline operations within the industry, we have waived the fees required by the Department of Culture to register cultural artists, including herbalists, with the Ministry. This will ensure that no one is locked out of this process on account of lack of financial resources. I therefore urge and encourage artists and musicians to register with the Department of Culture to provide us a platform to communicate and work together to build the sector.

The Ministry will soon roll out a non-internet based USSD code to allow more people from the counties to enroll as well as commence production road shows to evaluate and package entries from across the country.

By offering superior connectivity and digital solutions across Liquid Telecom’s East Africa backbone, the EAC, consisting of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan, has been ‘digitally transformed’ with best-in-class connectivity and collaboration tools.

This includes connectivity to the main EAC data centre in Arusha, East African Institutions located in different partner states and its back up facility in Uganda linked directly to the 6 EAC Court of Justice located in different countries of EAC and relevant authorities like National Banks and capital market authorities in EAC.

Supporting all of our customers and especially the East Africa Community at this critical time is a priority for Liquid Telecom. We have ensured the EAC maintains as close to normal operations with world-class digital services and collaboration software delivered across ‘Liquid Telecom’s East Africa Backbone’ a new eco-system for the Extended East African Communities offering enhanced connectivity. “My deepest condolences to all those who have lost friends and family due to COVID-19. And my appreciation to the governments, emergency services and health care staff that are playing a critical role reducing the impact of the virus while also helping to save lives,” continued Adil Youssefi.

Commenting on the announcement Eng. Murenzi Daniel, Principal Information Technology Officer, East African Community said, “Business continuity is critical at the East African Community as member states continue to engage on regional matters. Even in the midst of COVID 19, key decisions still need to be made and Liquid Telecom has enabled us to stay on top of things.
