  • East Africa’s Moment: Can the CHAN Co-Hosts Set the Stage for AFCON Glory?

East Africa’s Moment: Can the CHAN Co-Hosts Set the Stage for AFCON Glory?

A new football season is about to ignite on SuperSport available on DStv and GOtv, and all eyes are on the African Nations Championship (CHAN) as it kicks off across Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. This year’s tournament promises to showcase the very best of African homegrown talent, offering fans a thrilling preview of what to expect when the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is held in the region in a couple of years.

But will the three host nations be able to challenge for the title this year and lay down a maker for when the AFCON comes around in two years’ time?

Tanzania: Riding the Wave of Home Support
As one of the three co-hosts, Tanzania will kick off CHAN 2025 in Dar es Salaam at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Drawn in Group B alongside Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, Tanzania finds itself in a relatively balanced group. That gives the Taifa Stars a legitimate shot at advancing to the knockout stage.

The national team has shown promise in recent years, bolstered by domestic clubs like Young Africans SC (Yanga) and Simba SC, which have produced a steady stream of talent. Veterans like Mbwana Samatta, though not CHAN-eligible if playing abroad, have set high standards for the current local squad. Recent performances, including wins in regional friendlies and CECAFA tournaments, show a team capable of exploiting home conditions effectively.

With CHAN being a tournament exclusive to players in national domestic leagues, Tanzania’s strong club football ecosystem could give them the cohesion and sharpness required. Playing at home with raucous support in one of East Africa’s best football venues gives them a major edge. A quarterfinal appearance is a realistic and achievable goal – and a strong run could set the tone for AFCON 2027.

    Uganda: Dark Horses with Momentum
Uganda enters CHAN 2025 with quiet confidence, having recently beaten Senegal, the reigning CHAN champions, in a high-profile friendly. Hosting Group C at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium (Namboole), Uganda will face tough opposition in Algeria, South Africa, Guinea, and Niger.

Coach Morley Byekwaso has emphasised discipline and teamwork in recent training camps, and the domestic league’s increasing competitiveness – through clubs like KCCA FC and Vipers SC – has provided a solid pipeline of home-based talent. Uganda’s preparation, including their performance in the recent CECAFA Four Nations Cup, indicates growing tactical cohesion and mental resilience.

While their group is arguably the tournament’s toughest, Uganda will benefit immensely from passionate home fans in Kampala. With proper execution, they can realistically push for the knockout rounds. A strong CHAN run would not only boost morale but demonstrate that Uganda can compete at a high level ahead of AFCON 2027, when it hosts group-stage matches and the third-place playoff.

    Kenya: Big Test, Bigger Ambitions
Kenya faces a daunting challenge in Group A, where they’ve been drawn alongside CHAN heavyweights Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. However, Kenya has the advantage of hosting the final match at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, with group games also set for Nyayo Stadium.

Under newly appointed coach Benni McCarthy, the Harambee Stars are building a refreshed squad focused on domestic players. The additional time granted by the tournament’s postponement to August 2025 has given Kenya’s technical team a chance to scout and prepare better. Captain Aboud Omar has publicly emphasised turning home support into motivation, and the federation is eyeing CHAN as a proving ground before AFCON 2027.

Although advancing from such a stacked group will be challenging, Kenya’s energetic home atmosphere, new coaching leadership, and a point to prove could spark a surprise run. Even a strong showing in the group stage would build valuable momentum for the country’s biggest hosting test yet in 2027.

    East Africa’s Time to Shine
As CHAN 2025 unfolds across Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, the tournament represents more than just a continental competition—it’s a dress rehearsal for AFCON 2027 and a chance for East Africa to showcase its footballing growth on home soil. Each host nation brings a unique blend of ambition, talent, and home-ground advantage to the table.

Whether or not they lift the trophy, a strong showing from the co-hosts could shift perceptions, inspire future generations, and set the tone for a landmark AFCON in two years’ time.
CHAN 2025 isn’t just about winning—it’s about making a statement. And East Africa is ready to be heard.

  • Bebe Cool talks about lessons from the Kenya & Tanzania media tour

Bebe Cool talks about lessons from the Kenya & Tanzania media tour

After two weeks in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, promoting his Break the Chains album, singer Bebe Cool has come out to highlight some of the key lessons he picked from the experience.

In a lengthy post, the Cheque singer expressed gratitude to his fans and the media, in both Kenya and Tanzania, for the welcome they extended to him during his tour:

He noted that when he started his career in Nairobi, Kenya, the East African region was a cultural force on the continent, prominent in creating cultural exchange. He however expressed concern about the fact that things have changed over the years, and East Africa today now remains in the cold as events shaping the continent take place elsewhere.

    Bebe Cool

“Nairobi remains vibrant in 2025, but it no longer dominates the continent’s cultural scene. Areas like Johannesburg and Lagos have taken the spotlight, raising the question: how did we watch the spotlight move?” he asked.
Bebe pointed out that back in the day, artists from Tanzanian, such as AY, Mr Nice, TID, Lady Jaydee, as well as Kenyan stars- like Necessary Noize, Nameless, Redsan, always collaborated with artists from Uganda, and across the region, making East Africa an entertainment powerhouse.
Nazizi and Wyre of Necessary Noize, teamed up with Bebe to form the explosive East African Bashment Crew, one of East Africa’s biggest music groups of our generation, while Jose Chameloene had songs with Professor Jay, Bushoke, AY and many more.
“I observed that the brotherhood that once fueled artists such as Lady Jay Dee, AY, Redsan and Nameless, or the synergy behind Necessary Noize and the East African Bashment Crew, has faded. For years, these collaborations united fans and amplified our regional sound. However, after becoming successful, we stopped working together, weakening the regional power that once turned East Africa into a force,” he says.
Bebe Cool says East Africa needs to reignite that spirit if they are to get the world to pay attention to their art.
He then turned to how Easy Africa can use its numbers to turn the streaming era in their favor.

“Together, our combined population exceeds 300 million. If just 50 million of us became music consumers, streaming; the world would have no choice but to take notice, given the strength of our numbers,” he says.

He applauded the media in Kenya and Tanzania for their professionalism. The Motivation singer said the media asked hard, but right questions, exhibiting thorough background research. He was also amazed by how Kenya and Tanzania have embraced digital media platforms, such as YouTube.

Bebe Cool called upon artists to invest in sectors that support the music industry, such as media. He applauded Tanzanian starts- Diamond Platinumz and Ali Kiba, who own Wasafi Media and Crown FM, respectively.

Bebe Cool’s two-week long media tour was well captured by several media platforms across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. He implored fellow artistes to make an effort and at least make an appearance, once a year, in every country in the region, to interact with the media and music lovers.

  • Dubai Looks to Uganda, Kenya, DRC and Others Following Visa Ban On Nigeria

Dubai Looks to Uganda, Kenya, DRC and Others Following Visa Ban On Nigeria

The worlds leading tourism destination, Dubai has turned its eyes to Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo,, South Sudan, and other African countries as a rich source for their tourists after placing a Visa ban on Nigerian tourists.

The United Arab Emirates announced in October 2022 a Visa Ban on all citizens of Nigeria and other African countries.

“This is to inform you that we will not be posting 30 days visa applications for these nationalities effective today October 18, 2022, “part of the notice read.

It also informed all traveling agencies, and trade partners that, “Any applications from the above-mentioned countries will be sent back or canceled.”

The attention of Dubai’s tourism ministry and the UAE has now shifted to other African countries like Angola, Kenya and South Africa as a result of the ban to provide them with the yearly number of tourists visiting the city.

Given this, the tourism ministry has employed the services of South African singer Thabsie as well as Kenyan celebrity Bahati as their new tourism ambassadors. The search for Francophone celebrities is also on our source revealed.

The two stars have been tasked to use their popularity to show Africans what Dubai has to offer through their own eyes and individual experiences.

Thabsie and Bahati, who are currently in Dubai with their plus ones will engage if a friendly campaign called the “A to Z of Dubai” where they will, letter by letter, convince their followers to visit Dubai.

Meanwhile, the former president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari February 2023 called for the lifting of the blanket visa ban on Nigerians by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The leader expressed readiness to apply necessary sanctions through appropriate judicial processes against persons who commit criminal acts in the UAE while admitting that some Nigerians may be violating the laws of the country.

President Buhari also appealed for a lasting solution to both countries’ predicaments and urged that all issues be allowed to be handled by the relevant security/intelligence agencies.

  • Reinstated ban on Ugandan Dairy in Kenya sends industry in fury

Reinstated ban on Ugandan Dairy in Kenya sends industry in fury

In anticipation of the long rains this year, the Kenya Dairy Board issued a statement dated 6th March 2023 stating that the Government of Kenya has stopped the importation of milk powders to cushion the industry from surplus production and low producer prices.

Consequently, the Kenya Dairy Board says that it will monitor the production and demand for milk and milk products in the country and advise its Government accordingly. This announcement directly reinstates the 2021 ban of Ugandan milk products importation into Kenya which goes against Kenyan President Ruto’s recent directive to lift a ban on Ugandan agricultural produce such as milk, eggs and chicken.

This followed a meeting between President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Kenyan Trade Minister Kuria Moses in Kampala, late January 2023.

According to the Dairy Development Authority (DDA) of Uganda, Milk production is estimated to have increased from 2.08 billion litres in 2015 to 2.64 billion litres in 2020. By the end of 2021 milk production was estimated to reach 2.81 billion short of the target of 3.0 billion litres.

Dairy exports in the country reached a record high of 358.6 billion UGX in the last four years and nearly doubled compared to last FY 2019/20 with dairy equipment valued at 18.9 billion UGX being imported in the country to support the growing trade. This implies that milk production in Uganda is on the increase with massive investments by dairy producers and farmers.

DDA observes that the growth and sustainability of the dairy subsector strives to provide wealth and improved health for Uganda. Musinguzi Ethan, a dairy farmer in Sembabule district said that the new reinstated ban on dairy exports from Uganda to Kenya will set him back since he might fail to pay school fees for his three school going children whose family heavily relies on dairy farming for survival.

“I often sell my milk early morning at the Milk Collection centre near my home because the managers there have often informed us of the increased demand for milk within Uganda and beyond.”

In the past, milk farm gate prices have gone as low as 400 Ushs per litre, and yet currently there is more stability with an increase to 1,075 Ushs per litre as reported by DDA, 2021.Currently, DDA reports over 880 licensed dairy businesses.

Of these, some of the major producers include Pearl Dairies, Brookside Limited/ Fresh Dairy, Jesa Farm Dairy, Amos Dairies Uganda Limited, Paramount Dairies Limited, GBK Dairy Products Limited and Lakeside Dairy Limited among others. The livelihood of dairy farmers in Uganda depends on both local consumption and export of milk and milk products.

According to the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS), dairy farming is a strategic enterprise in Uganda that provides household food security and daily incomes to the large population. Milk farm gate prices have also increased to an average of 1,072 Ushs per litre.

Uganda being a member of the East African Community, there is need for Government intervention in lobbying the Kenyan government to lift the ban on milk exports from Uganda.

This is in line with one of the objectives of the EAC that seeks to progressively transform into a single market that allows for free movement of goods, persons, services, labour and capital.

that support and belief in the team from the fans continues to play a big role in morale boosting the players each time they have a match.

  • Statement on the postponement of Made in Kenya concert

Statement on the postponement of Made in Kenya concert

23rd March 2021(Nairobi, Kenya) – Following the rising numbers of Covid-19 the organisers of the Made In Kenya Concert have postponed the concert to 5th June 2021.

As you may well be aware, the government has called on the public to stop gathering to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and after deliberations with artistes, sponsors and partners it wouldn’t be responsible for us to go ahead with the event at this time.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have caused us to make this decision at this time.

Firstly it is the uncertainty caused by the fact that the Covid-19 numbers in recent weeks have massively risen and we care so much about the well being of every person involved and that includes our fans. We have met with the various stakeholders involved and we feel it’s not proper to risk the lives of Kenyans and therefore have to reschedule the event to June  5th 2021.

Secondly, our primary concern is always the responsibility we feel towards our fans, artistes and partners, who fund the show – not only by purchasing stand space but also in the considerable additional investment they make.

We will  keep you posted if anything changes, and please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

You can find out more about COVID-19 on the WHO,MOH(Ministry of Health) websites.

Stay safe, and we’ll be in touch with more information soon.
