The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), mandated to provide clean and safe water and sewerage services across Uganda on a commercially viable basis, continues to strengthen water supply infrastructure in preparation for major national events.
Today, a team from the Planning and Capital Development (P&CD) Division, led by the Director Infrastructure Planning and Development, Eng. Denis Taremwa, conducted a comprehensive field assessment of existing water sources and infrastructure in Hoima, in support of the upcoming AFCON Qualifiers.
The team inspected the Kyarwiru Borehole, with a production capacity of 15m³ per hour, and the Mparo Borehole, producing 25m³ per hour. Both sources feed into the 162m³ Kyamwiru Reservoir, supplying Hoima City Stadium, Kichwamba and Bwikya wards, and surrounding areas.
The team also inspected the Kyarwabuyamba Water Treatment Plant (Hoima 1), whose production capacity has been upgraded from 3,000m³ to 6,000m³ per day.
They further assessed the ongoing Hoima Emergency Water Supply Project (Hoima 2), which is aimed at addressing the demand-supply gap in preparation for the AFCON Qualifiers.

• A 300m³/day Water Treatment Plant at Rwoga
• A 300m³ reservoir at Musaja Mukuru, with a distribution main to Kabalega Airport
• Raw and treated water pumping mains
• A distribution system to Hoima City
A monthly on-site meeting was also held between NWSC and the contracting team from ZhongHao Overseas Construction Company, led by Mr. Wang, to review project progress, pending procurements, modifications and site observations.
Eng. Denis Taremwa commended the contractor for the progress made so far, while urging the team to maximise the available working days, particularly during the rainy season, to accelerate implementation.
He also noted that the NWSC Board of Directors is expected to visit the project site in a fortnight, urging the contracting team to ensure that all project particulars are up to date and that outstanding issues are addressed ahead of the visit.
The contractor reported 28% project completion, with an anticipated cumulative increase to approximately 40% by the next monthly meeting scheduled for 29th October 2026.
The project is scheduled for completion and commissioning by March 2027.
