    MARU Credit celebrates a successful partnership with Uganda Golf

    Kampala: MARU Credit and the Uganda Golf Club are proud to announce the overwhelming success of The Grand Tee Off, a full-day event held on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, which celebrated the culmination of their year-long partnership.

    The event capped a hugely successful collaboration, which saw MARU Credit sponsor the popular weekly MARU Credit Club Nite. The partnership brought consistent energy, fun, and recognition to the club members throughout the year.

    The Grand Tee Off built on this tradition with a full day of golf, live performances from Everything is Kawa singer Lilian Mbabazi and the Band and night life’s Deejay (DJ)Anselm. The event also featured a show case of latest vehicles from Kushi Motors, made available through MARU Credit’s Drive Now, Pay Later campaign.

    Winners of the night included Ronald Pulle for the Men’s Category, while Judith Komugisha took the award for the overall winner in the women’s category. Iganatius Twesigye won the men’s longest drive in the men’s category and Godwin Murungi won the nearest the Pin category for male while Gloria Mbaguta and Regina Ddamulira won the women’s category of the same competitions respectively.

    Tusker Malt takes to bars to initiate non-golfers into the game

    For the uninitiated out there, Tusker Malt has created the chance for non-golfers to take a glimpse into the world of golf.

    The title sponsor of the ongoing Tusker Malt Uganda Open that is happening at the Serena Lake Victoria Golf Resort & Spa in Kigo is bringing the miniature version of the game to select hangouts in Kampala.

    This is aimed at interesting more people to take up the sport.Last night, the premium beer brand brought the greens to Gabz Lounge, Bugolobi. It was a sip and swing affair as folks attempted the miniature golf games set up at the venue over lots of laughter, music and banter about the golfing sport.

    The highlight of the night turned out to be the putting challenge miniature set up which attracted many of the first-timers who took great pleasure in putting the golf balls, surprisingly with most being more successful than those who had previously held a golf club.

    “Many people have the misconception that golf is an old rich man’s game. We are demystifying this notion by making the game more accessible to our consumers,” shared Mark Ethan Kamanyire, Tusker Malt Brand Rep.

    On top of taking golf to bars where Tusker Malt’s consumers are, the premium beer brand has elevates this year’s Uganda Open experience by setting up a hospitality village at Kigo where the tournament is taking place.

    “We set up the hospitality village for players to lounge after the games and non-golfers to learn more about the game. Everyone is welcome to be part of this year’s Tusker Malt Uganda Open. The village has discounted beers and entertainment during the prize giving nights on Saturday,” Kamanyire added. The tournament is on until October 29th.

    The monthly Serena Kigo Golf Resort membership championship teed off on Friday February 28 at the picturesque golf course.

    Richard Mucunguzi was the overall winner scoring 42 points in the inaugural tournament that was sponsored by Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve.

    “The tournament will be happening every last Friday of the month and will run over the next ten months culminating into the grand Serena Johnnie Walker Championship in December, “ Theodor van  Rooyen said

    Members will be earning points every month they take part and seven of their best monthly  scores will  cumulatively be used to select the overall winner.

    “We shall select seven out of ten scores because our members are busy,they travel all over the world and we know they can’t make it for every event but we encourage them to always make time,” Theo said.

    Koshiba Hisea   was the ladies winner scoring 39 points and the runner up was  Marth Babirye with 26 points.

    Playing off Handicap 7 David Plenderith was the Group Amen’s winner with 36 points.

    “Last year Johnnie Walker partnered with Serena Kigo as we launched this magnificent golf course, we are proud that our partnership is now on a monthly basis,” Said Uganda Breweries  Head of Luxury Portfolio Annette Nakiyaga.

    Afrigo Band excites golfers as Singleton Challenge comes to an end

    The Singleton Challenge cemented its reputation as the outstanding event of the local golf calendar as the 2019 edition came to an end on Saturday night. And what an end it was.

    The tastefully decorated Entebbe Club hosted a Season 3 Singleton Challenge finale which was nothing short of glamour as golfers and golf enthusiasts were treated to a plush ceremony.

    The tournament which debuted on the sporting and social calendar in 2017 lived up to its billing as the place to find fascinating action on the course and breathtaking entertainment off it as a grueling day on the greensended with golfers retreating to retro heaven by one of the oldest bands in the land, Afrigo, who delivered several of their finest hits at the finale dinner.

    The performance by Afrigo Band was certainly music to the ears of Richard Lutwama and Robert Busingye, the winning pair this year who overcame Andrew Atuhaire and Geoffrey Orach to continue a remarkable Singleton Challenge record of producing a new set of champions for each one of the three seasons it has been in existence.

    “We set out to create something that will give us moments like these; unforgettable moments that have created a bond making us family throughout the three years. I cannot be more proud of what we have achieved,” said Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Luxury Portfolio, Uganda Breweries Limited.

    The winning pair earned themselves an-all expenses paid trip to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic slated for January 2020. The event is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments and has featured players like Tiger Woodsin the past. The Singleton Challenge’s sponsors include Victoria Motors, CBA, Afrisafe Risk Partners, Serena Hotel, DStv, RwandAir, Pinnacle Security, Ekspreso, HTC and Street Club.
