Nsimbi, a cross-cultural duo consisting of Ugandan hip-hop pioneer GNL Zamba and American world fusion artist Miriam Tamar have released their much-awaited video for their song, “Esuubi” off the Infinity EP.

“Esuubi” is a song about hope, community, and the Ubuntu spirit. In “Esuubi” Nsimbi reminds us to share, connect and listen to each other.

“When we lose our inner fire, we fall. In the depths of desperation, scarcity and depression, many lose their joy and it is up to us as a community to uplift them through connection, pouring love into their cup, sharing our spark, raising their vibration and restoring hope, esuubi,” Nsimbi says.

The song was written by Miriam & Ernest Nsimbi (GNL Zamba) during the pandemic to uplift the spirits & vibration. We see the effects of the lost business, family and resources.

The second music video off the Infinity EP, “Esuubi”, meaning “hope” in Luganda, is an expression of community strength, resilience and it encourages open dialogue in conversation so others don’t suffer alone. It reminds us that together as humanity, we can be each other’s therapy and source of hope, especially in times when it feels like a hopeless drought.

Visually “Esuubi” incorporates the colors blue, yellow, and red to represent the throat, solar plexus, and root chakras respectively which are most elemental to keep our hope alive.

Nsimbi wear blue to vocally spread the message of hope contagiously through the lyrics:

    “Share with me your troubles

    I will be your rainbow

    Show you you’re lovable

    Together we’re invincible

We are high, we will fly

    Everywhere we go

    Everywhere we go

    Tumble down, We are found

    Everywhere we go

    Everywhere we go

    Esanyu liliwa nange nguleko

    Nguleko nguleko

    Enyumba ziliwa nze negameko

    Negameko negameko

    Mpaku love yo nange nsekeko

    Nsekeko nsekeko

    Ssuubbi lyenesigamyeko

    Lyenesigamyeko lyenesigamyeko

    Essuubi lyenesigamyeko

    Lyenesigamyeko lyenesigamyeko

    Essuubi lyenesigamyeko

    Lyenesigamyeko lyenesigamyeko

    Essuubi “

The scene cuts to Miriam clad in yellow with flower dancers, representing the solar plexus chakra of inner will motivating everyone from another dimension to let the vibrations of “Esuubi” be felt instinctually. Many of the villagers wear red to represent the root chakra, connecting to our basic human needs, connection to our home and survival instincts. When all of our chakras align, we reach our highest potential and transcend time to become infinite.

“Esuubi’ is part of a short film which is a visual album for the Infinity EP, produced by Nsimbi / Swahili Nation. The Infinity EP short film was shot by Pest of Gratemake Films, choreographed by Lillian Maxmillan Nabaggala, set design and styling by Hannah Mugenyi, costumes by Abbas Kaijuka.

Nsimbi is on a mission to create positive, uplifting art through a celebration of Ugandan / East African sounds on Infinity EP-recorded, mixed & mastered in East Africa.

All Infinity EP tracks were recorded at African Bureau of Music and produced by Kusseim. Mixing and mastering were done by Theweezy. All songs were written and performed by Miriam & Ernest Nsimbi.

GNL Zamba takes fans down memory lane in nostalgic Tusker Malt Conversessions edition

Tusker Malt Conversessions has broadened its music genre scope after the online video series went hip-hop for its third edition.

The episode that went live on Sunday evening was headlined by Ugandan hip-hop titan, Ernest Nsimbi, who is better known by his stage moniker, GNL Zamba.

GNL evoked nostalgia from the last decade when he performed hits exclusive to the album critics regard to be his magnum opus, Koyi Koyi.

Tusker Malt not only added a twist to the musical genres but to the visual experience as well.

In the GNL edition, the production team at Swangz Avenue sets the rapper up for a real time barber shop experience, with the star of the moment looking resplendent in a black and white tux.

Despite the series getting a hip-hop spin off, the online show stays true to its acoustic experience as the rapper performs his classics to a suit clad live band.

As opposed to back up vocalists, GNL enlists longtime collaborator, Tommy Race, who, clad in a suit, serves as the official hype man.

GNL’s performance was proof to as to why the Luga flow legend referred to himself as the “Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T)” in tweets that led up to the show.

The Baboon Forest honcho kicked off his special with the head bopping ghetto anthem, Koyi Koyi which set the tone for an evening of hip-hop, clean-cut bars and rap aggression. However, GNL had a lot more tricks up his sleeves.

The Luga flow storyteller treated his fans to dancefloor fillers such as Kikankane and the Benon Mugumbya assisted Mwana wa baaba.

Even with the fanfare proceeding in excess, Zamba still preached and gave counsel performing socially conscious bangers such as his own rendition of Elly Wamala’s Ani yali Amaanyi and AIDS psalm, Luka.

The hip-hop conversession thickens when GNL not only claims the much-contested rap throne but disregards the competition as copycats who cannot map out their own blueprint.

The Lugaflow behemoth also silences naysayers who question his choice of marrying a white lady and choosing to stay in the states as opposed to his motherland. GNL responds to the hard questions. GNL proves himself. With the debate growing around who the hip hop G.O.A.T is, GNL has made his submission. No rapper has a catalogue boasting of chart toppers such as Koyi koyi, Kikankane and Ani Yali Amanyi.

GNL’s episode of the TML conversessions is currently on Tusker Malt Lager’s official You Tube channel- Tusker Malt Lager Ug.Fans can also follow the conversessions on TML’s socials @tuskermaltug on Twitter and @tuskermaltlagerug on Instagram. GNL reignites hip-hop “who is who” debate after declaring himself G.O.A.T ahead of Tusker Malt Conversessions

Baboon Forest CEO Ernest Nsimbi, nom de guerre, GNL Zamba has inflamed the “who is who” debate within the Ugandan hip-hop circle upon declaring himself G.O.A.T (Greatest of all time).

GNL made this declaration through a tweet in which he endorsed the third edition of the Tusker Malt Conversessions, an episode the hip-hop icon is bound to headline.

In a supreme feat of braggadocio, the story teller notified fans that the G.O.A.T will be headlining the Tusker Malt Conversessions episode that goes live this Sunday December 5.

The rapper went on to claim the hip-hop throne by declaring himself as “the pinnacle of rap excellence”.

In the tweet, GNL insinuates that his talents surpass rap when he describes himself as a griot.

Griots are members of a class of travelling poets, musicians and storytellers who maintain a tradition of oral history in parts of West Africa.

This is a subtle jibe that self-elevates GNL’s artistry from the competition’s, classifying his art form as that from the upper most echelons.“5th December THE GOAT will be at the @TuskerMaltLager Conversessions.

Tune in to witness the man who put the G in Greatness! His eloquence, The pinnacle of Rap Excellence in his Magnificence.

It’s the Genius the Griot Ghetto Storyteller!!!” read his tweet.

Uganda’s hip-hop crown has always been contested, with each and every rapper claiming rights to it.

From trailblazers like Navio to hot right now acts like Feffe Bussi, some bars in their songs are spared for claiming the throne.

It is only exciting that GNL, who has reignited the debate, will have an opportunity to prove himself as the rightful emperor as he headlines the first hip-hop edition of the Tusker Malt Conversessions.

The GNL episode, the third episode of the TML conversessions premieres on 5th December, 2021 on Tusker Malt Lager’s official You Tube channel- Tusker Malt Lager Ug.

The first two episodes featured vocalists Winnie Nwagi and Naava Grey. They are available on the channel.
