From Uganda to the World: Stella Kikoyo Recognised for Advancing Women’s Empowerment

Ugandan-born, United Kingdom-based empowerment leader Stella Olivia Namakula Kikoyo has received international recognition for her work advancing women’s empowerment, education and leadership after winning Gold in the Gender Empowerment category at the 2026 Women Changing the World Global Awards in Paris, France.

The award places Kikoyo among women from around the world recognised for creating impact through leadership, education, advocacy, business, humanitarian work, innovation and other fields.

More than 1,500 nominations from 97 countries were submitted for the 2026 awards, reflecting the international scope of the programme and the breadth of work being undertaken by women across different sectors and communities.

For Kikoyo, the Paris recognition represents another milestone in a journey spanning more than two decades and bringing together education, marketing, media, entrepreneurship, leadership and women’s empowerment.

At the centre of that work is a simple idea: knowledge can become a force for transformation when women are equipped to act on it and share it with others.

“Women’s empowerment is not simply about giving women more opportunities; it is about giving women access to knowledge that changes what they can see, what they believe is possible and what they are prepared to act upon,” Kikoyo says.

She describes this philosophy as “moving light from one woman to another in the form of knowledge.”

The concept has become a defining element of her work through Stellar Woman, the global empowerment, education and media platform she founded to amplify women’s voices, share knowledge and encourage women to pursue purposeful lives, leadership and meaningful legacies.

Her wider empowerment philosophy is expressed through the call:

    BE HER. RISE. SHINE.

For Kikoyo, “Be Her” begins with identity and the recognition of one’s own possibilities. “Rise” represents taking action through knowledge, purpose and self-leadership. “Shine” is about extending that impact by sharing experience, knowledge and stories so that other women can see new possibilities for themselves.

She views visibility not as an end in itself, but as a means of creating wider impact.

“Knowledge becomes powerful when it is acted upon, and transformational when it is shared,” she says. “When a woman receives that knowledge and acts upon it, she rises. When she shares what she knows, she shines.”

Building a global platform for women
Kikoyo’s work has developed across several interconnected platforms.

As Founder, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Stellar Woman Magazine, she has built a digital and print publication centred on women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, careers, personal development, business and transformation.

The publication also provides a platform for women to share experiences and expertise, with the intention of turning individual stories into sources of knowledge and inspiration for other women.

As host of The Stellar Woman Show, Kikoyo has held conversations with internationally recognised leaders and authors, including Kim Kiyosaki, Sharon Lechter, Dr Maggie Kigozi and Susan Nsibirwa.

Through these conversations, she explores subjects including wealth creation, entrepreneurship, leadership, personal development and purposeful living.

Her work also extends through Stellar Woman Academy, where she delivers coaching, masterclasses, visioning experiences, leadership development and business and brand programmes.

The programmes are designed to support women as they clarify their purpose, strengthen self-leadership, develop careers and businesses and think intentionally about the legacy they want to create.

Kikoyo brings to this work more than 25 years of experience in Marketing and Business Management education in Uganda and the United Kingdom. A Chartered Marketer, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, academic, author and international speaker, she has also worked in executive education, including delivering specialist masterclasses to Executive MBA participants.

Her areas of expertise include marketing, brand positioning, neuromarketing, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, coaching and mindfulness.

    Recognition across Europe and beyond
The Paris Gold is the latest in a series of honours recognising Kikoyo’s work.

In April 2025, she received Bronze in Gender Empowerment at the Women Changing the World Awards in London.

Later that year, at the Women Changing the World European Awards in November, she received three honours: Gold for Gender Equality & Empowerment, Silver for Women in Education and Bronze for Women in Leadership.

In April 2026, she returned to the Women Changing the World Global Awards in Paris, where she received Gold in Gender Empowerment.

Kikoyo has also joined the Women Changing the World community as a judge, giving her an opportunity to participate in recognising and elevating the achievements of other women.

For her, the growing recognition is less about awards themselves and more about the opportunities they create to extend the reach of her work.

“Winning this award has stretched the horizon of what I see is possible,” she says. “For me, recognition is not the destination; it is an opportunity to take this work further, reach more women and keep the light moving.”

Extending the mission to the next generation
The expansion of Kikoyo’s work is also taking place through new partnerships and initiatives.

Her collaboration with Street Business School supports efforts to equip women with entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills aimed at creating pathways from generational poverty towards greater economic opportunity and wealth creation.

Her commitment to younger women is being developed through Stellar Teen, an emerging media platform and magazine focused on teenage girls and issues including identity, confidence, self-awareness and leadership.

In September 2026, Kikoyo and longtime collaborator Divya Parekh are also scheduled to release Unstoppable, the first international anthology under the Stellar Woman platform. The project will provide women with another avenue to share their experiences, expertise and stories while building visibility and authority.

These initiatives are connected by Kikoyo’s belief that empowering one woman can have consequences far beyond the individual.

A woman who gains knowledge and confidence can influence her family, workplace and community. Her example can also shape the aspirations of younger generations.

That intergenerational dimension is central to Kikoyo’s long-term vision of creating what she describes as “a better and brighter world where millions of women rise into their potential and shine as Stellar Women.”

She hopes those women will use their knowledge, experiences and voices to enrich the lives of others and broaden what future generations believe is possible.

Her message is captured in the phrase:

“A better and brighter world, one Stellar Woman at a time.”

For Kikoyo, becoming a Stellar Woman is not about achieving a particular status or reaching a standard of perfection. Instead, it is an invitation for women to recognise and use the knowledge, experience and potential they already possess.

“A Stellar Woman does not rise simply for herself,” she says. “She rises so she can shine. And she shines so that somebody else can see.”

  • France and England to clash in World Cup Third Place Playoff Everything can wait!

France and England to clash in World Cup Third Place Playoff Everything can wait!

The 2026 FIFA World Cup’s penultimate match is the Third Place Playoff, which will see old foes France and England renew their rivalry.

Les Bleus and the Three Lions suffered respective defeats to Spain and Argentina, but this bronze medal match offers a chance at redemption. Here’s the breakdown as France and England battle for bronze in Miami.

    Head-to-head

    Matches played 32

    France wins 10

    England wins 17

    Draws 5

    France goals 41

    England goals 72

France and England have met in 32 matches, with the Three Lions winning 17 matches compared to 10 for Les Bleus, while five games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with France winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud.

    Players to watch

    France – Kylian Mbappe

    Tournament stats

    – Appearances: 7

    – Goals: 8

    – Assists: 3

    – Yellow/red cards: 1/0

Though this World Cup will end in disappointment for Mbappe (regardless of the result of this Third Place Playoff), he could yet win the Golden Boot and/or Golden Ball, given his outstanding performances. If he can rack up a few more goals and put in another strong showing, personal accolades could yet follow.

    England – Anthony Gordon

    Tournament stats

    – Appearances: 6

    – Goals: 1

    – Assists: 4

    – Yellow/red cards: 0/0

After his fine performances through the knockout rounds – including his goal against Argentina in the semifinal – Gordon has proven himself as a reliable and elite performer for England. He will hope to cap off a fine tournament with a strong showing in Miami on Saturday.

    Key stats

14.6 – France have the highest xG (expected goals) at the World Cup, with 14.6 in their seven matches thus far.

7 – Despite scoring eight goals, Kylian Mbappe has also missed the most ‘big chances’ – seven – at the tournament.

6 – Both Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have scored six goals each – the first time that one team has two players on six or more goals in World Cup history.

26 – England have created 26 big chances at the World Cup, a number bettered only by France (27).

    Tactical battle

In the third-place playoff, Didier Deschamps’ France will likely blend structure with attacking freedom, using a balanced, resilient system that becomes lethal once ahead, allowing stars like Mbappé to exploit space. With this his final game, expect controlled intensity and sharp transitions.

Thomas Tuchel’s England, however, are more methodical: built on structured possession, positional discipline and territorial control. Yet recent criticism of his over-cautious in-game management suggests a tension between control and risk. The tactical battle hinges on whether Tuchel imposes control, or Deschamps manipulates moments and punishes hesitation.

Euro 2020: All to play for between France and Portugal on StarTimes

Football fans are used to expect the unexpected. And that is exactly what happened in the so-called Group of Death at Euro 2020.

The 2016 finalists France and Portugal meet in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on Wednesday and after their opening games, their fans thought that both Les Bleus and the Seleção would have already qualified for the knock-out stage by the time they face each other.

But in their second matches the unexpected happened.

France needed an Antoine Griezmann goal midway through the second half to draw 1-1 with Hungary, while Portugal gave away a Cristiano Ronaldo lead in Munich against a rampant Germany that ended up winning 4-2. It was the first time that a title holder conceded four goals.

The results leave France topping Group F with four points, Germany and Portugal both have three points, but Germany are second on the head-to-head basis. Hungary have one point.

This leaves the group wide open ahead of the final round of group matches, with all four teams still having a chance to progress.

But with the likes of Ronaldo, Rúben Dias and Bruno Fernandes on the one side and Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema and Paul Pogba on the other, it is not surprising that most of the neutral fans will focus on the rematch of the 2016 final.

Portugal, who won the 2016 final 1-0 through Eder’s extra-time goal, will feel the pressure ahead of Wednesday’s game. The Seleção will expect Germany to avoid defeat at home against Hungary, leaving Portugal needing to beat France if they want to finish in either of the two places that would guarantee a place in the round of the last-16.

Although the top four third-placed teams from the six groups will also advance to the knock-out stages, they will be facing a group winner in the next round.

Portuguese coach Fernando Santos took the blame for the defeat against Germany, but remains confident. “Whether we progress or not is still up to us. And we must respond against France.”

But if Portugal have some pressure on them, France will also be feeling the heat. A defeat or draw for them and a victory for Germany would see Les Bleus slip from first to third and anxiously looking at the results from the other groups.

A win for Didier Deschamps’ team on the other hand, would secure a game in the next round against a third-placed team.

Deschamps, however, might be without Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé, who had to be taken off with a knee injury after coming on as a substitute against Hungary.

With so much at stake, football fans will be spoilt for choice as both games are being player at the same time. But African football fans need to miss none of the best action as the Euros are being shown live and in HD on the StarTimes channels.

  • PM announces the UK will end support for fossil fuel sector overseas

PM announces the UK will end support for fossil fuel sector overseas

The UK Prime Minister will announce today 12th December that the UK will end direct government support for the fossil fuel energy sector overseas, as he opens the Climate Ambition Summit.

The world-leading policy will see the UK end export finance, aid funding and trade promotion for new crude oil, natural gas or thermal coal projects, with very limited exceptions.

This is a significant change –in the last four years, the Government supported £21 billion of UK oil and gas exports through trade promotion and export finance. The policy will be implemented after a short period of consultation and is intended to come into force as soon as possible, and before COP26 next November.

Today’s announcement will expedite the shift to supporting green technology and renewable energy, creating jobs across the UK and driving international growth in the industry.

The Government will work with the UK’s oil and gas sector to support the move to low carbon energy sources through the North Sea Transition Deal, ensuring areas like Teesside and Aberdeen can become global hubs for wind energy, carbon capture and other clean technologies of the future.

It comes as the UK prepares to co-host a virtual Climate Ambition Summit with the UN and France and in partnership with Italy and Chile this afternoon, marking five years since the landmark Paris Climate Agreement.

At least 75 world leaders – from Justin Trudeau to Narendra Modi and Pope Francis – will participate in the event, alongside the UN Secretary General, businesses such as Apple and Legal & General, city mayors and civil society groups.

The Summit is open to leaders who are ready to showcase ambitious new commitments, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strategies to reach Net Zero, climate finance pledges and innovative plans to adapt and build resilience to climate change.

It will put the world on a path to make substantial reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions ahead of COP26 in Glasgow.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said ahead of the Summit:

“Climate change is one of the great global challenges of our age, and it is already costing lives and livelihoods the world over. Our actions as leaders must be driven not by timidity or caution, but by ambition on a truly grand scale.

“That is why the UK recently led the way with a bold new commitment to reduce emissions by at least 68% by 2030, and why I’m pleased to say today that the UK will end taxpayer support for fossil fuel projects overseas as soon as possible.

“By taking ambitious and decisive action today, we will create the jobs of the future, drive the recovery from coronavirus and protect our beautiful planet for generations to come.”

Earlier this month the Prime Minister announced a new NDC, committing the UK to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 68% by the end of the decade compared to 1990 levels – the fastest rate of any major economy.

The ambitious target is supported by the Ten Point Plan for a green industrial revolution, which will create and support up to 250,000 British jobs by 2030 and make significant strides in cutting emissions across energy, transport and buildings.

The UK has also pledged £11.6 billion in International Climate Finance over the next five years and is today announcing a new £10m commitment to a multilateral Green Recovery Initiative, which will support developing countries to build back better by integrating their climate commitments into economic efforts to recover from the pandemic. We will also be submitting an ‘Adaption Communication’ to the United Nations today, setting out what the whole of Government is doing to help vulnerable countries adapt and become more resilient to the threat of climate change.

COP26 President Alok Sharma, who will close today’s summit, said:

“Five years ago the Paris Agreement was the dawn of an age of hope for our planet. Today’s commitments will clearly show that we are entering a new age – one of increased climate ambition and real action.

“The world leaders who are gathering for this summit share a heavy responsibility. We know that the choices we are making today are just the start of what needs to be done to safeguard our planet.

“As President of COP26 I will work tirelessly to continue to drive up urgent emissions cuts and protect the countries most vulnerable to climate change.”

A Government consultation will be launched today with industry and other stakeholders on the implementation and impact of the new policy on ending support for fossil fuels, to inform the North Sea Transition Deal. The consultation is expected to conclude by 8 February 2021.

UK Export Finance (UKEF) will continue to consider applications for support in the oil and gas sector whilst the consultation is ongoing, and has already scaled up its support for the renewable energy sector. The Chancellor allocated £2 billion to UKEF’s direct lending facility in the Spring Budget to accelerate its support for clean growth and renewable energy projects, meaning it can now provide direct loans dedicated to overseas buyers of UK renewable goods or services.
