President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced the lockdown since March to avoid the spread of deadly COVID-19 caused by Coronavirus across the country.
The lockdown is due to end on 5th May but it is likely to be pushed further with the pandemic far from over despite Uganda’s success so far.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni together with the Ministry of Health have received praises with the way they have handled the pandemic which has caused havoc in the first world.
With almost all travels banned across the country, the county’s registered cases which now stands at 88 with 52 recoveries has been impressive. Out of those 88, close to 30 are truck drivers from Kenya and Tanzanian.
But in the last two days, the country has registered two positive cases from community upcountry with one from Masimbi and another from Rakai. This may force the county’s top leadership to think twice about easing lockdown.
Most of the countries which have eased lockdown have reported sharp increases in new cases and this also may contribute to delay.
World Health Organisation (WHO) recently warned countries that they face a fresh outbreak if the lockdowns are eased as early as May.
