    Coke Studio Africa announces an all Women Finale to Commemorate International Women’s Day

    In the marking and celebration of 2019 International Women’s Day, the 2019 season of Coke Studio Africa announces its upcoming all women finale episode in a powerful statement and a trail-blazing move. This will be the first time in the history of the Pan African music property to feature an all-female episode, that will include female singers, rappers, music producers, studio engineers, a full band, as well as key behind the scenes crew like, content directors, scriptwriters, editors, camera operators and floor managers amongst others.

    Over the last six seasons of Coke Studio Africa, the show continues to highlight Africa’s great talent and the opportunities for women in the arts and entertainment industry. Currently, approximately 60% of all the professionals that work on Coke Studio Africa comprise of women. Coke Studio Africa will continue to give more meaningful and competitive opportunities to women in the field of arts and music, through the platform.

    Top female instrumentalists from Kenya who will be part of Coke Studio Africa All Women Band in the finale episode will include Kasiva Mutua (Percussions), Wendy Kemunto (Vocals), Ivy Alexander (Guitar), Naomi Ziro (Bass Guitar) and Mutindi Tindi Muasa (Keyboard). Top female artists drawn from across the continent will include Nazizi (Kenya), Lioness (Namibia), Boity (South Africa), Sheebah (Uganda), Nandy (Tanzania), Mahlet (Ethiopia) Lourena Nhate (Mozambique), Tamy (Zimbabwe) and music producer Viola Karuri (Kenya), among others.

    Ugandan artists share studio experience with guests

    Coca-Cola treated guests, artists and partners to an evening of African music, free flowing drinks and trivia as they officially launched the 2019 Coke Studio Africa season in Uganda.

    The event was attended by representatives from Coca-Cola Uganda led by Maggie Kigozi, the Coca-Cola Regional Marketing Manager and Conrad Van Niekerk, the Coca-Cola Bottling Managing Director, broadcasting partners, influencers and members of the media fraternity. Also in attendance were Coke Studio Uganda representatives: Alvin Kizz, Sheebah, Weasel, King Saha, Fik Fameica and producer Daddy Andre, accompanied by Coke Studio Alumni Jose Chameleone and Ykee Benda.

    The night kicked off with a special tribute session to the late Moses Nakibogo aka Radio during which King Saha and Radio’s former partner Weasel performed their Coke Studio mashup dedicated to all the fallen soldiers.

    Sheebah, Alvin Kizz and Ykee Benda were then given an opportunity to talk about their experiences at the studio and entertain the guests with some of their newest tracks, including their Coke Studio collabos.

    Speaking on behalf of the night’s host, Mrs. Maggie Kigozi thanked all the guests for turning up to support Ugandan and African music.

    As you all know, fusing the diverse musical influences in Africa while providing a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists to collaborate musically is the backbone of Coke Studio. This year, our artists have had the opportunity to share experiences and integrate their musical journeys with over 25 of Africa’s talented artists and producers,” she noted, adding this season will celebrate the local African artists that have made a remarkable impact on the music industry and therefore will not have an international star.

    On his end, Conrad Van Niekerk applauded the Ugandan representatives for reaching this far in their musical careers. Henoted that Coke Studio is designed to bring local talent together to showcase on the international music scene. He reiterated CCBA Uganda`s commitment to continuously offer the market the most affordable and innovative products.

    Along with Coke Studio 2019, Coca-Cola will be launching an Under The Crown that will reward consumers who have purchased a Coke zero, Fanta Orange, Fanta Fruit blast, Sprite, Novida or Stoney with exciting prizes. Additionally, Coca-Cola has partnered with Mr Tastys, KFC, Crazy Chicken and Javas to provide a Coke Studio discounted meal.

    Coke Studio will be airing on NTV, NBS, Sanyuka and Spark TV on Fridays at 8pm.

    Alvin Kizz makes Coke Studio Africa debut alongside Zim Dancehall Heavyweight Winky & Mozambiquean star Messias Maricoa

    For the third year in a row, Coke Studio Africa is giving a spotlight to Africa’s fast rising and up upcoming artists who have left a mark in their respective countries within a short timethrough the Big Break segment. Emerging Ugandan star, Alvin Kizz, will make his debut on the segment collaborating with Winky D (Zimbabwe) and Messias (Mozambique), with the trio pair produced by Nigerian producer GospelOnDeBeatz.

    Alvin Kizz is one of the fastest rising stars in Uganda at the moment and widely touted as one of the next big stars coming out of the East Africa. Famed for his hits “Nkulowoozako”, “Tubalaba” and “Julia”, Alvin had his big break in 2018 after the release of the smash hit single “Nkulawoozako” alongsideCoke Studio Africa shining diva from Ugandan: Sheebah Karungi. As an all-rounded artist, he approaches entertainment with music that is conscious and this has endeared many fans towards his craft at an early stage.

    Other emerging African stars featuring on the Big Break segment on the new season include: Kenyan pop star Nadia Mukami, multi-talented media personality-cum-singer Mimi Mars, Kizomba star Valter Artistico and Zimbabwean hottest female artist at the moment Tamy Moyo. The five will make their stint on the show collaborating with some Africa’s industry greats.

    The upcoming new season of Coke Studio Africa 2019 will feature over 25 of Africa’s talented artists. Music acts and producers will be drawn from several countries across the Sub-Saharan region including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Nigeria.

    Bebe Cool recently defended his title as Ugandan Legend when he displayed hidden talent on the RnB track titled “Push Up” with Jason Derulo – one of the world’s most successful songwriters and recording artists. The track that also features Dela from Kenya and Rayvanny from Tanzania shows the artists’ ability to not only collaborate but also learn from the unique experience of working with an Urban pop mega-star who has sold over 50 million singles worldwide and racked up 11 platinum singles so far.

    Produced by Masterkraft, one of the best producers in Nigeria, the track opens with Jason Derulo who is later joined by Dela and then Rayvanny. Bebe Cool makes an exciting entrance amidst an indoor fireworks display as he adds some dancehall sizzle to the already outstanding collabo, prompting the other artists to unleash their favorite dance moves. Dela restores order to the stage with her soothing voice, bring the mashup to an end.

    Commenting about the track and the entire Coke Studio Africa season, producer Masterkraft asserts that Coke Studio Africa is the most important platform for African artists. He says: “Having broken the barrier of ethnicity and culture, Coke Studio Africa is certainly one of the best things that has ever happened to African music. Coke Studio influences the part of music that interests a wider range of African people… If it wasn’t for Coke Studio Africa – as a producer – I am sure I wouldn’t have met some of the top artists I’ve worked with on and after the show.”

    Coke Studio Africa is a non-competitive music collaboration show, which seeks to bring together, and celebrate the diversity of African music and talent. It also gives upcoming artistes the opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent. It brings together artistes from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion.

    Ugandan artists share studio experience with guests

    Influencers, journalists and well-wishers were treated to a magical evening of free drinks, dinner and entertainment during the event to officially launch the 5th consecutive season of Coca-Cola’s flagship show Coke Studio.

    Hosted at Fame Bar and Lounge Acacia Avenue in Kololo, the event was also attended by two of Uganda’s Coke Studio representatives – Bebe Cool and Lydia Jasmine as well as representatives from Century Bottling Company Limited, the official bottler and distributor of Coca-Cola products in Uganda.

    Titled Coke Studio Africa 2017, this season marks the first time that the beverage giant has merged Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa into one, bigger and better show, consequently increasing the number of participating countries to 16, up from 11 in previous edition.

    Mr. Rodney Nzioka, the Coca-Cola Uganda Brand manager thanked the guests for showing up in large numbers and for their continued support over the years.

    “As you all know, fusing the diverse musical influences in Africa while providing a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists to collaborate musically is the backbone of Coke Studio,” he said.

    “Coke Studio Africa is Coca-Cola’s pledge to the development and support of both the African and Ugandan music industry. Through productions such as Coca-Cola Pop Stars, Coca-Cola Real Stars and Coca-Cola Rated Next, we have played an active role in harnessing the talent in our country,” Nzioka added.

    During the launch event, Coke Studio representatives Lydia Jasmine and Bebe Cool were given an opportunity to share their experiences in the studio and the impact this show has had on their personalities and music careers. Guests were also given the opportunity to watch the first episode of the Coke Studio Africa 2017 season that officially airs on Saturday 9th September 2017.

    In 2014 Coke Studio Africa saw the legendary Wyclef Jean take the stage and light up our households with the unforgettable ‘Divine Sorrow’. In 2015 super star NE-YO took Peace One Day to Rwanda and delivered a Coke Studio original song ‘Reason’. In 2016 Coke Studio saw the iconic Trey Songz set the stage on fire with his dynamic presence and now, in 2017 Coke Studio brings the Mega Platinum star: Jason Derulo, a new-school, multi talented creative giant who has sold over 50 million singles and impressively achieved 11 platinum singles including ‘Wiggle’, ‘Whatcha’ Say’, ‘Talk Dirty’, ‘It Girl’, ‘In My Head’, ‘Trumpets’ and ‘Marry Me’.

    This year Coke Studio has merged Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa into one—bigger and better, Coke Studio Africa – 2017. The show has confirmed Jason Derulo as this year’s guest star set to feature on a special episode themed the Global Fusion Edition! The American Pop/R&B singer and dancer who is currently riding high with his latest banger ‘Swalla’ is expected to jet into Nairobi, Kenya this week (June 2017) to participate in the recording of Coca-Cola’s flagship African music show: Coke Studio Africa.

    Two of Africa’s hottest music producers: Masterkraft (Nigeria) and DJ Maphorisa (South Africa) will be tasked with producing all the African artistes and Jason Derulo, after which all the music will be performed and recorded live alongside Coke Studio’s highly talented house band. Last year, DJ Maphorisa produced music collaborations between Trey Songz and selected Coke Studio African stars.

    Coke Studio Africa – 2017 includes artistes from South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, DRC and Cameroon. The new season is set to premiere in different regions from September this year and will broadcast in more than 30 countries across Africa.
