    Yesterday marked a significant moment in the political landscape of Uganda as the Rt Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga officially picked nomination forms to contest for the position of 2nd National Female Vice Chairperson ahead of the 2026 general elections.

    A seasoned stateswoman, Princess Kadaga brings with her a legacy of visionary leadership, unshakable integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the empowerment of women, youth, and marginalized communities across Uganda. Her decision to seek another term in this influential role reaffirms her dedication to strengthening inclusive governance, promoting national unity, and upholding democratic values.

    During her previous tenure as 2nd National Female Vice Chairperson, Rt Hon. Kadaga demonstrated exceptional leadership by championing the voices of grassroots women, advancing gender equality within the political sphere, and contributing meaningfully to the strategic direction of the party at the national level. Her deep experience as a former Speaker of Parliament and long-standing public servant has made her a pillar of wisdom and a symbol of resilience in Uganda’s political history.

    Under her leadership, key initiatives aimed at economic empowerment, education, and health particularly for rural women have seen notable progress. She has consistently advocated for inclusivity, dialogue, and policies that protect and promote the welfare of all Ugandans.

    Rebecca Kadaga, Hellen Namutamba comforts Ruparelia family amidst son’s untimely death

    The Chairperson Busoga Tourism Board who also doubles as Kamuli District Woman MP and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa Affairs Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has paid tribute to Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia’s son, Rajiv, who died last Saturday in a fatal accident.

    While visiting the family at their plush Kololo Home to comfort them over the loss, Kadaga described the death of Rajiv as a total loss and a hole to the entire nation and which can not be filled.

    Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga was accompanied by Busoga Kingdom Tourism and Heritage Minister who also doubles as Presidential advisor Hon. Hellen Namutamba. She described Rajiv as an exemplary young investor to the youth who was inspiring many. “The country especially the business and education sectors will miss his service a lot,” she said.

    Speaking on behalf of the government and the Busoga Kingdom, Princess Kadaga expressed deep sorrow over the untimely loss. “We have lost a young man who not only upheld his family’s legacy but also showed great promise in shaping Uganda’s future,” she said. “This is a loss not only to his family but to the nation at large.”

    Princess Namutamba, reflecting on Rajiv’s support for cultural and tourism initiatives, especially within the Busoga region, described him as “a friend of heritage and a believer in the power of culture to transform communities.”

    The two leaders spent time with the bereaved family, offering prayers and words of encouragement. They signed the condolence book and pledged continued support to the Ruparelia family during this difficult time.

    Rajiv died in a fatal accident in the wee hours of last Saturday morning along Kajjansi Munyonyo Highway after his monster machine, a Nissan GTR hit a temporary road barricade and overturned several times before catching fire burning the young billionaire into flames. May his soul RIP!

    Buganda, Ankole & Busoga Regions Getting Highest Remittances From Abroad- Report

    The 2024 National Population & Housing Census (NPHC) shows that out of 10.6 million households in Uganda, 155,200 (about 1.5 percent) received remittances during the last 12 months preceding the NPHC 2024.

    Remittances are household incomes originating from foreign economies, primarily due to the temporary or permanent migration of individuals to those countries.

    These transfers include both cash and non-cash items, sent through formal channels like electronic transfers, or informal means such as money or goods physically transported across borders.

    Remittances largely consist of funds and goods sent by individuals who have settled abroad, as well as the net earnings of cross-order, seasonal, or short-term workers employed in an economy in which they do not reside.

    Remittances play a crucial role in supporting household income, highlighting the need to evaluate how reliant households are on external financial aid. This data is essential for shaping policies that align with national development plans.

    The census results show that Buganda sub-region has the highest number of households receiving remittances from abroad (85,529). It’s followed by Ankole sub-region (10,482), with Karamoja sub-region recording the lowest numbers (2,354) of households that received remittances followed by Lango sub-region (2,574).

    Busoga has the third largest number of households receiving remittances from abroad (9,466).

    It’s followed by Elgon with 8,861 households receiving remittances, while West Nile has 7,786 households getting remittances from abroad as of May 2024.

    Tooro region has 6,804 households receiving remittances from abroad while Bunyoro has 5,384 households receiving remittances.

    These are followed by Bukedi (4,377), Acholi (4,304), Teso (3,712) and Kigezi (3,567).

    In terms of education level for the household head, findings showed that households with heads of households who completed post-secondary level of education received more remittances.

    The census findings show that most households receive remittances in the form of money (75%), followed by goods (16%), and about nine percent receive both cash and goods.

    Purpose of remittance

    According to the UBOS report, among the 155,200 households that received remittances in the 12 months prior to the census, most cited upkeep/food (25%), followed by education (17%) as the main reasons for the remittances. Twenty-six percent of male-headed households did not state the purpose of the remittance received. In contrast, among female-headed households, the most common use of remittances was for upkeep/food (34%), followed by education (17%). Twenty-three percent of women-headed households declined to mention the reason for the remittance, the report says.

    Busoga Tourism Minister Hellen calls for Free WiFi Zones in Busoga Tourists sites

    The Minister of Busoga Tourism & Heritage, Hon. Hellen Namutamba has today officiated at the Business Process Outstanding consultative meeting organized by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance at Civil Service College.

    During her address, Hon. Hellen called for the creation of free WiFi zones in Busoga (at Busoga City Square, and at Tourism Sites such as Kagulu Rock, Itanda Falls, Busowooko Falls, Source of the Nile, Bishop Hannington Site in Kyando Mayuge district, etc.) and the development of a website where graduates can upload their CVs.

    “This platform will enable employers to easily find suitable applicants for job opportunities,” she added.

    She also enlightened the audience on why Uganda is called the Pearl of Africa, a title affirmed by Churchill at Rippon Falls in 1908.

    Hon Hellen concluded by inviting everyone to the Kagulu Rock Climbing Challenge due on August 17th, 2024.

    “I call upon every to mark your calendars and join us for this exciting event of Kagulu Rock Climbing Challenge in Buyende District,” She said.

    The Annual Kagulu Rock climbing challenge is back with a bang, we can confirm.

    The fun filled event and tourism experience is set to take place on 26th August in Buyende District, Busoga Region.

    There will be lots of other activities with the special one being Hiking to the peak of the rock.

    There will be lots of entertainment, cultural exhibition and Miss Tourism Busoga Finals.

    Kyabazinga Tourism Minister Hon. Hellen Olga Namutamba has called on the public to come in big numbers and experience the challenge physically.

    “You are all invited for Kagulu Rock climbing on 26th August 2023,” Hellen said.

    Dott Services kicks off construction of Busoga Towns & Municipalities roads

    Engineering and construction giants Dott Services Limited has kicked off construction of 90km roads in Busoga and Bukedi sub regions.

    Dott was recent recommended for its good work on Tirinyi – Mbale Road which earned them a direct procurement of the new project.

    The 90km critical roads were in a state of disrepair requiring urgent rehabilitation to remove traffic flow constraints exhibited at the moment and enhance serviceability to the economy by facilitating free and fast moving goods in the region.

    These critical road links are scattered around municipalities and Town councils of Bigiri, Luuka, Namutumba, Iganda, Kaliro, Bugweri, Kibuka, Budaka, Namayingo and Busia.

    Over the weekend, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presided over groundbreaking ceremony for the 90km project.

    Engineering and construction giants Dott Services Limited has been commended for the good work in construction. Due its good work, the construction giant has been recommended to take charge of upgrading roads in towns and municipalities in Busoga and Bukedi Sub regions/zones.


    “Due to the fact that Dott Services is at the moment constructing Mbale -Tirinyi Road and Saza Road in Iganga, it is seen as pragmatic, quite expedient and technically proficient to engage Dott Services through a direct procurement in accordance with the law to undertake the proposed works as deemed appropriate with due expedition and without further delay,” an official from the government said.
