  • Kellyrae is crowned the winner of Big Brother Naija season 9 in nail-biting and emotional finale

Kellyrae is crowned the winner of Big Brother Naija season 9 in nail-biting and emotional finale

Kellyrae has walked away with the coveted title of Big Brother Naija season 9 winner, in an exciting, climactic end to 10 weeks in Biggie’s house.

He beat out a total of 27 competitors – including his wife Kassia – to seize the ultimate crown.
Before being announced as the last man standing in a two-hour finale, an emotional Kellyrae – who started the show as one half of DoubleKay alongside his then-secret wife, Kassia – told host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and the screaming live studio audience he was “very” surprised to make it to the top two.
“You told us that no couple actually makes it far, so I’m happy that my wife and I have broken one record. Secondly, there are other records to be broken… Having to say that your wife is your friend was the biggest lie I told in my life,” he said.

Coming in as the BBNaija season 9 runner-up was Wanni, who admitted that she hadn’t expected to make it to the top two: “I’m still grateful. I’ve accomplished everything I came to do on this show. Wanni x Handi are taking over the world. Let’s go. It’s money, baby.”
Kellyrae beat out six other finalists – Sooj, Anita, Ozee, Nelly, Victoria, and Onyeka – to walk away with an impressive cash and car prize worth N100-million (localise).

Ebuka wasn’t alone in hosting duties last night – Toke Makinwa, host of Big Brother Naija: The Buzz on Showmax, joined him from a fan park, where the energy was as spirited as it was in the studio. Former housemates from this season as well as seasons past also made an appearance, while there were live performances from Joeboy and Qing Madi.

It was an emotional and tense finale, which opened with poignant tributes from Big Brother to the top 8 housemates: “In the face of many obstacles, you didn’t lose your determination or ambition. Finalists, you no loose guard.”

We started BBNaija with 28 housemates – as 14 pairs – and halfway through the season, the pairs were unceremoniously split in a shocking twist. Some pairs didn’t recover from the disbanding, while others’ halves made it all the way to the end.
The eight finalists were eliminated one by one during the finale, with Sooj being the first to go. He said: “I’m thankful for the journey. I feel like a winner. I feel like a champion.”

Next to leave was Anita, who had made up one half of the last remaining pair, Nelita. “Even though coming in here I wanted to win the prize, at some point I wondered if I would be here till week four. Well I’m here to this day – I feel that’s an achievement,” she told Ebuka.
Ozee, too, expressed gratitude: “It’s not about the final prize, it’s about the experience… Look out for me, this is just the beginning.”
Next out was Nelita’s Nelly, who had auditioned nine times before finally making it into BBNaija. When asked what was next, she said: “Everyone knows I’m all about my brand. You guys should expect something big.”
After narrowly missing out on the top three, Victoria said: “I did not expect to get this far, so being part of the finalists is a very big deal to me.”
The final evictee was Onyeka, who declared when asked how authentic she had been on the show: “Biggest O is over the top all the way, so on the show if she’s over the top she’s just being Biggest O!”
While there is only one winner, many housemates’ lives have changed forever. Biggie’s closing words to the finalists last night ring true: “Beyond Big Brother’s house is a country yearning for your arrival, a world eager to receive you, a sky awaiting its stars.”
“Big Brother will watch as you continue to attain new heights, continue to thrive and continue to shine. Go out there and be the sun, blazing in your glory.”
Congratulations to Kellyrae on his win. To paraphrase Ebuka, we might be at the end of the road but it’s the start of a new journey of fame and freedom for Big Brother Naija season 9’s housemates. What a season!

  • Another three bite the dust as Handi, Shaun and Tjay are evicted from Big Brother Naija

Another three bite the dust as Handi, Shaun and Tjay are evicted from Big Brother Naija

Kampala: It was an intense eviction episode for all, but especially for a tearful Wanni, who saw both her twin and her boyfriend evicted from the house in one fell swoop.

That’s right: Handi and Shaun have been evicted. But that wasn’t all – Tjay was also voted out of Biggie’s house.

That leaves 11 housemates still in the running for the grand prize of N100-million (localise) and a brand new car – with just two weeks until the finale.

First to go was Handi, whose eviction left the house stunned. Speaking to BBNaija host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she said: “It’s so hard leaving the love of my life [Wanni] in the house, but I had the feeling I was gonna go, so I had already prepared for the worst.”

Evicted next was Tjay, who said “nobody should have long faces, abeg” while hugging his former housemates. Clad in a tailored suit, he told Ebuka: “I didn’t think I was gonna get to this point. There are so many strong characters and strong competitors, but I think I did very well.”

Finally, it was Shaun’s turn to be evicted, leaving Wanni inconsolable. “I kind of felt it in my heart that today would be the day I would probably leave. I had a hard week… but I’m happy to be here. I had a good run – eight weeks in the house is a blessing,” he said.

Also up for eviction were Anita, Kassia, Nelly, Onyeka, Victoria and Wanni.
The week leading up to the eviction show was filled with plenty of chaos and drama. For starters, Big Brother issued the first strikes of the season as Kassia, Handi, Shaun, and Wanni were found guilty of conspiracy.

During the live eviction show, Ebuka asked Kellyrae about his thoughts on Biggie’s strikes, especially since his former duo partner (and secret wife) Kassia was one of those who landed in hot water.

Kellyrae said: “I wasn’t happy about it. I’ve repeatedly told her that at this moment we should all be very, very careful with our words.”
On the bright side, the housemates enjoyed their third wager win, led by Head of House Sooj.

With secret comments exposed for all to know and a triple eviction on the heels of last week’s double eviction, the stakes have never been higher in the house. As Ebuka said: “I hope the housemates don’t forget that this is a competition and that their destiny lies with them and the voting public.”

What do the final two weeks of Big Brother Naija season 9 have in store for us? Keep watching to find out.

  • Double whammy eviction as Ben and Chizoba are the first solo housemates to be booted from Big Brother Naija

Double whammy eviction as Ben and Chizoba are the first solo housemates to be booted from Big Brother Naija

After housemates enjoyed an eviction-free Sunday last week, Big Brother Naija viewer’s votes sank Ben and Chizoba’s ship when the two housemates became the first solo contenders to be evicted during last night’s broadcast.

This follows a nomination process earlier in the week that saw housemates “stare at betrayal face to face” – in our charismatic host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu’s words.

After his eviction, Ben said he was grateful to have been in the house as long as he was. Ebuka then asked him what his plans were with Chizoba. “I’m gonna root for her moving forward. I want her to get to the finals. She’s a good girl and when she comes out, we’ll take it forward from there.”

Well, she came out of the house earlier than he expected, with Ebuka announcing Chizoba’s eviction just moments later.

About leaving her sister Onyeka behind, Chizoba said: “I would have loved to see it to the end, but now I’m rooting for my sister to win, that’s what matters to me now.” When asked about her feelings for Ben, she said: “He really has a very big spot in my heart.”
The week’s possible eviction list was a long one: Kellyrae, Victoria, Sooj, Kassia, Shaun, Topher, and Ozee were also up for eviction.

There was a major twist on nominations, with housemates no longer nominating one another from the safe anonymity of the diary room – but doing it in front of one another. To borrow from Ebuka: “Face-to-face nominations left the house in shambles” and “threw it into chaos”.
Indeed it was an eventful week seven, where Biggie jolted the housemates awake by reminding them that it was time to come out of their shells – and they duly listened, brightening up in time for the Thursday night pool party, and getting into some of the most heated exchanges witnessed so far this season.
As Ebuka said during the live show: “Big Brother took things to the next level.” But it wasn’t just Biggie who was turning up the heat – after letting the housemates breathe last week, Ebuka was back in his interrogation bag.

He asked Head of House Tjay if Big Brother had told him to call the housemates “sheep” – as he had relayed in a message to them. Tjay admitted that the specific word was his own interpretation of Biggie’s message.
But it was Kassia who got a real grilling about her comments questioning the authenticity of Onyeka’s friendship with Wanni and Handi. This followed a heated confrontation during the week that spilled over into other housemates’ own situations… ignited by a parrot Biggie had placed in the house.

When asked to explain herself by Ebuka, who was not letting her get away with not answering his questions, Kassia was mostly speechless, making for riveting TV.

On a lighter note, housemates had a back-to-back wager win for the first time this season, following weeks of hits and misses when it came to the challenge.
With two house duos now forever broken up since their former teammates’ departure, how will the dynamics in the house be affected? Will last week’s tensions spill over into this week? There’s only one way to know…

  • Bye Bye, Tami: Big Brother Naija season 9’s Twists, Tears and Romance Lead To Spectacular First Eviction Show

Bye Bye, Tami: Big Brother Naija season 9’s Twists, Tears and Romance Lead To Spectacular First Eviction Show

It was a surprise-filled and entertaining opening week of Big Brother Naija season 9 that saw the No Loose Guard Housemates lose their first wager.

But that wasn’t all: it ended on an emotional note when besties Tami (Damilola and Toyosi) became the first pair to leave Biggie’s house in an eviction show like no other.

That means 13 dynamic duos live to see another week in Biggie’s house, fighting for their shot at the incredible N100 million grand prize.
During last night’s live eviction show, our inimitable host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu summed up the first week of BBNaija as such: “It’s been nothing short of drama, fun, entertainment and competition amongst all pairs.”

Speaking about being evicted, Toyosi said she wasn’t surprised by the result: “I wasn’t disappointed at the vote [because] Dami’s had issues with a lot of them.” When Ebuka asked Damilola why she hadn’t built alliances in the house in order to survive, she replied: “I tried doing that. When I realised they had issues with me, I apologised immediately. But my apology didn’t go anywhere, I guess.”

Except for those who had immunity, all duos were up for eviction this week, with the viewers choosing the four pairs who would ultimately be nominated to leave the house. The other eviction nominees were: Chekas (sisters Chizoba & Onyeka); Radicals (friends Fairme David and Michky); and Streeze (friends Toby Forge and Mayor Frosh).

Announced during the live eviction show, the remaining pairs not up for nomination had the power to decide who would leave. Biggie granted each pair 20 seconds to vote in the diary room – and they were also allowed to conspire with one another to evict a duo they wanted out of the house.

It was also time to see what the storied custodian box held: custodian titleholders Ndi Nne (niece and aunt Chinne and Nne) were allowed to save a pair from eviction. They chose the Radicals.
It was a fitting end to a sizzling first week in the BBNaija house, which has been filled with fun twists and dramatic moments.

Kicking things off was the Head of House (HoH) change this season: whoever won HoH would be via ballot vote from their fellow housemates. More surprisingly, winning HoH doesn’t come with immunity from eviction as it always has.
The first HoH-winning pair were the Mbadiwe Twins (brothers Ocee and Ozee). They were tied with the Radicals on votes, but custodians (more on that later) Chinne and Nne gave the twins the title with their deciding vote.
The next twist? The introduction of the custodian challenge, which takes place immediately after the live eviction show. Whichever duo wins the challenge secures immunity for the week and also gets a secret mystery card which could influence either nominations or evictions. As witnessed during the first eviction show, the custodians potentially have the power to change the course of the game.
And that all happened in the first 24 hours!
The rest of the week only added to the drama:
    Five housemates (Chinwe, Michky, Ruthee, and twins Wanni and Handi) broke down crying on wager night – which they lost;
    There was an immunity challenge, won by Beta (friends Ben and Tjay);
Couples saw their boundaries and loyalties tested (Chinwe accusing Zion of betrayal); and
The Thursday night pool party wasn’t without memorable moments (Shaun and Wanni aka Shanni’s undeniable chemistry resulted in their first kiss).
If week one was this entertaining, we can’t wait to see what this next week has in store! But first, Ebuka had some sobering parting words for the remaining housemates: pull up your socks.
“You now realise that the game has started – it’s not a holiday. Some of you are literally being carried by your partners. You’re just there existing while your partner is doing all the work. The viewers are seeing everything,” he said to a shocked house.
Keep up with all the drama and excitement on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49. You can also join the conversation using the hashtag #BBNaijaS9 on social media. The live eviction shows are broadcast every Sunday at 7pm (8pm CAT) on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv Channel 151 and GOtv Channel 12).

  • Kiddwaya Bids Farewell to Big Brother Naija All-Stars as Lucy, Omashola, Kim Oprah and Prince Enter as Houseguests

Kiddwaya Bids Farewell to Big Brother Naija All-Stars as Lucy, Omashola, Kim Oprah and Prince Enter as Houseguests

The Big Brother Naija: All-Stars Edition took an electrifying turn on Sunday night as the jury voted out Kiddwaya, who coincidentally received the least votes.

After a week filled with intense drama, strikes, and strict Big Brother interactions, fans had mixed reactions to his exit.

Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu set the tone for the evening as he began by inquiring about the stairwell kiss between Kiddwaya and Mercy. Mercy denied any knowledge of their secret kiss, claiming afterwards that she was intoxicated while Kiddwaya said it was a small kiss he didn’t expect the cameras to capture. It appears they forgot that Big Brother has eyes everywhere and he is always watching.

As anticipation for the eviction grew, the jury members—Saskay from the Shine Your Eye season, Elozonam from the Pepper Dem season, and Vee from the Lockdown season—gave their verdicts from the bottom two, Kiddwaya and Tolani Baj. They decided to save Tolanibaj because of her ‘situationship’ with Neo and fans are divided about the decision, especially Vee’s, who they had expected to send Tolanibaj packing instead. Interestingly, their decision tallied with the voters as Kiddwaya only polled 1.95% of total votes cast while Tolanibaj recorded 2.03%. Controversial housemate, Seyi was also in the bottom three with 2.66%.

Kiddwaya had managed to capture the hearts of audiences earlier in the season with his fun demeanour and tactical skills. Still, viewers were divided about his strategy as they couldn’t reconcile it with his ‘Lockdown’ persona. Ultimately, his constant scheming lost him some much-needed votes and landed him in the bottim and at mercy of the jury. Ebuka announced Kiddwaya’s eviction, to the shock of the housemates. As he bid farewell to the Big Brother Naija house, viewers were left wondering about the impact of his departure on the dynamics of the game.

Before signing off for the evening, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu warned the housemates to be very careful about the strong opinions they share in the house, noting that their images were on the line. This came in response to the disappointing display observed after the Saturday night party, hinting at the organiser’s disapproval of certain utterances within the house.

Ebuka also noted that fans should expect a new twist that will add a fresh layer of drama. To this end, four new houseguests – Prince and Lucy from the Lockdown season, Omashola and Kim Oprah from the Pepper Dem Season—made their entrance. Viewers are expecting the ‘non-gamers’ to inject new energy into the game. The arrival of Biggie House Guests will certainly shake up alliances and stir the pot of drama even further. The 4 House Guests are not in competition for the cash prize of N120 million.

However, their entrance into the show means that the stakes are now a little higher as the game play will most definitely evolve. Going forward, fans will have to vote harder to keep their faves in thr running for the finale. Viewers can save their favourite housemates from eviction by voting ONLY via the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps, mobile, or website. DStv subscribers are liable to up to 10,000 votes on the Prestige package or as little as 200 votes. GOtv subscribers, on the other hand can get between 200 and 750 votes for GOtv Supa+ subscribers.

Until the next eviction show, viewers can enjoy BBNaija All-Stars on the 24/7 channel – DStv ch. 198 and GOtv ch. 49. Remember, if you are away from home and don’t want to miss a minute of the action, you can catch up with your favourite All-Star housemates on the DStv Stream App or Showmax.
