Stop behaving like Amin regime – Lwanga tells NRM

Archbishop of Kampala Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has said security agencies who are allegedly abducting, torturing and killing people in the country are on the brink of degenerating into the Idi Amin and Milton Obote-type of regimes whose operatives terrorised the population with impunity.

However, Archbishop Lwanga said he was happy that President Museveni during his address to the nation at the weekend, ordered the security agencies to end the arbitrary arrests.

“This has given us hope because the Security minister said they did not know who was arresting the people. I remember when NRM came to power, the President said they came to resist the politics and leadership of Idi Amin and Milton Obote regimes,” the Archbishop said.

“If this is still the same National Resistance Movement, I call upon your government to continue resisting the evil abductions, torture and killings of people,” he added.

Archbishop Lwanga made the  remarks during celebrations to mark the Catholic Church 24th anniversary of the Day of the Religious at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Kampala where he unveiled eight Ugandans who were knighted by Pope Francis because of their dedicated service to the Church.

They are Ms Tereza Kabahita Mbire, Ms Mary Immaculate Nansubuga, Ms Regina Yiga, Prof Peter Kasenene, Mr Anthony Nnaakirya Mateega, Mr Joseph Yiga, Dr Saturninus Kasozi and Mr Emmanuel Katongole, the executive chairman of Cipla Quality Chemicals Industries.
Fr Richard Nnyimba, the Vicar for the Religious in Kampala Archdiocese, said the day has been celebrated every February 2 since 1997.

The day brings together consecrated persons serving the church such as nuns, priests and brothers to remind them about the vows they swore to serve the Lord.
Archbishop Lwanga also cautioned the ministers to beware of people they recruit into church, saying it has been infiltrated by witchcraft.
