Sauti Sol Nominated for Best Group & Best Song (SURA YAKO) at 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA)
Kenyan Music group Sauti Sol (Best African Act 2014 MTV EMA Winners) has been nominated at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 (MAMA) in two categories: Best Group in Africa and Best Song (SURA YAKO. The big news coincides with Sauti Sol’s big win at Tanzania’s prestigious Kilimanjaro Awards (Saturday 13th June) for Best Song in East Africa with SURA YAKO.
The group just returned to Kenya after successfully concluding a two-week American Tour dubbed #SautiSolRoad2BET (which followed Sauti Sol’s BET Awards 2015 nomination for Best International Act – Africa).
The MAMA nominations were announced on Thursday 11th June at a star-studded reception at Harem, Johannesburg, South Africa attended by a host of nominees, artists, celebrities and media.
Celebrating the extraordinary evolution of African achievement, this year’s MAMA recognises contemporary artistes and trailblazers in a range of music and lifestyle categories including Song of the Year. A total of 70 nominees were revealed at the event, across 13 different categories.
Speaking on new MTV nomination, Sauti Sol members asserted, “We are honoured to be nominated as the Best Group in Africa, especially in the wake of completing production of our upcoming third album: Live and Die in Afrika to be released in 2015. The winners for the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 will be revealed during the live TV broadcast on 18th July. The ceremony will take place at the Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC), KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on the the same day and will broadcast live across Africa on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129) at 21:00 CAT. The show will also be transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms including BET International from 18th July, 2015.

Sauti Sol has won a 2015 Kilimanjaro Award for Best East African Song(SURA YAKO).
Sauti Sol has also been nominated at BET Awards 2015 as Best International Act – Africa. They will be attending the star-studded ceremony broadcasting live from the Nokia Theatre on Sunday, June 28th 2015 from 5:00-8:00 pm/PST.
In 2014 Sauti Sol were the first Kenyan Act to win the coveted MTV EMA Best African Act Award. They have also been nominated for an MTV EMA Best Worldwide Act.
