President Museveni Donates A Lorry To Farmers In Lwengo District

President Museveni has donated a Fuso truck to farmers in Lwengo district that will be used in the transportation of agricultural products into the markets.

The district is endowed with fertile land for crop production, diary and animal farm production and the district authorities have started encouraging people to fully engage agriculture that will contribute the great fraction of the cash economy in Lwengo district.

The overall goal is of the program is increasing food security through stimulating sustainable production and the efficient functioning of markets and the creation of an enabling environment for agribusiness development, including skills development for women and youth and improved land governance. The program activities will result to greater income security as well as increased access to healthy foods within the population, hence rural incomes and livelihoods increased; and household food and nutrition security improvement.
The district is also served by the micro-finance institutions in form of SACCO’s, MDI’s and CBO self-help including village savings and loans associations (VSLA).

However, as part of its effort to transform the livelihood of its people and the local economy, Lwengo District Local Government has partnered with Uganda National Entrepreneurship Development Institute (UNEDI) to facilitate the district efforts in redesigning and developing a new District Investment Plan that will see Lwengo become a middle income status in 10-15 years based on vision 2040 as a robust strategy committed to facilitating the development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the rural areas.
