One Direction, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé Win At MTV EMAs 2014

One Direction, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé were amongst the major winners at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.

The ceremony was held on Sunday night (November 9) at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, and was hosted by Nicki Minaj.


One Direction won the Best Pop, Best Live and Biggest Fans awards. The boyband accepted their awards without Zayn Malik, who was taken ill, according to MTV’s backstage reporter Laura Whitmore.

They were also named as Best UK and Ireland Act prior to the ceremony, as part of the competition to determine the field for Best Worldwide Act.


Justin Bieber was named as the winner in the Best Male category, Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea’s ‘Problem’ was named as Best Song, while Linkin Park won the Best Rock award.

Nicki Minaj won the award for Best Hip-Hop, while Beyoncé’s ‘Pretty Hurts’ won the Best Song With a Message award.

Elsewhere, Ozzy Osbourne was named Global Icon, while Katy Perry won the Best Look award.


Bibi Zhou was named as Best Worldwide Act, while Ariana Grande picked up Best Female. Fifth Harmony triumphed as Best US Act, while Bieber was named Best Canadian Act.
