NWSC builds largest sewage treatment plant in the region

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has continues to build its service delivery capacity by constructing the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa here in Kampala.

This was revealed yesterday the water body on its official social media pages. The new plant has a capacity design to generate 630kw of power from biogas.

The new plant is aimed at improving sanitation in Kampala and pollution around Lake Victoria basin. It will also eliminate pollution of Nakivubo Channel.

“We are constructing the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa with design capacity to generate 630kw of power from Biogas. The facility is part of NWSC’s overall development strategy to improve sanitation in Kampala and environmental pollution around the Lake Victoria basin and will alleviate pollution of the Nakivubo channel,” NWSC posted.

In a related development there is ongoing refurbishment of Ggaba water works which is set to add 50 million litres of water to Kampala service area. This is all done in an effort to make clean and safe available to every individual in NWSC areas of operation by 2018.
