NSSF donates Shs 131m to KCCA to renovate Kampala schools

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has handed over Shs 131 million raised from this year’s NSSF Kampala Hash seven Hills Run to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for the renovation of structures in selected public primary schools.

“We all have a role to play in the transformation of the education sector in the city to secure the desired future for our children,” KCCA ED Jennifer Musisi said. “Partners like NSSF Uganda are making this happen,” she added.

Using proceeds from last year’s NSSF Hash Run, NSSF refurbished a classroom block at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School and also handed over (UGX 131 million) proceeds from this year’s run to renovate Makerere University PS and Summit View PS.

KCCA management has appreciated the partnership with NSSF and promised to keep it booming.

The Fund’s M.D, Richard Byarugaba hands over a dummy cheque worth UGX 131,000,000 to Kampala Capital City Authority – KCCA’s E.D Jennifer Musisi to renovate more schools.

During the handover of the proceeds on Tuesdya at Nakivubo Settlement, NSSF managing director, Richard Byarugaba, said that the Fund chose to support KCCA because of the appalling conditions at most of their schools.

“The NSSF Kampala Hash seven Hills Run is a vehicle through which we will progressively raise funds to improve learning conditions in public schools. So far, Nakivubo Settlement primary school and St. Ponsiano Kyamula primary school have benefited from this initiative. With this year’s proceeds, more schools will be renovated,” he said.

According to KCCA, 90 per cent of the 79 government aided schools under their custody require refurbishment among other needs.

“I applaud NSSF for keeping their promise to support us. With this support, we are able to address one of the most pressing needs in providing quality education for the underprivileged children,” said Jennifer Musisi, KCCA executive director.
