National Social Security Fund Uganda wins a 3rd African Investment Award

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Uganda has for the third time, won an Investments award, the 2018 Africa Investor Africa Pension Fund Infrastructure Investment Initiative of the Year Award.

The award was received by NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba at the 2018 Africa Investor CEO Infrastructure Investment Awards held on 18th June at the St Regis Mauritius Resort, Le Morne, Mauritius.

The Fund held off strong competition from 10 funds across Africa, including the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF), Namibia, Tanzania National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and South Africa Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF)

Others are the Kenya Public Service Superannuation Scheme (PSSS), Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF), and Social Security & National Insurance Trust (SNNIT), Ghana among others.

The keynote address on this year’s Ai Summit was given by the Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius, HE Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory. The event was attended by Ministers of Energy from across Africa, top project developers, project financiers, infrastructure investors, Public Private Partnerships Units and infrastructure policy makers.

“I wish to thank our in-house investments team for another great award. Winning this award for the third time running is a great milestone for the Fund, especially if you look at the competition that included some of the top Funds in Africa.  It is a testimony that the Fund is performing very well and being recognised by the market,” said Byarugaba.

Last year, the Fund won a similar Africa Pension Fund Infrastructure Investment Initiative of the Year Award Africa Investor Infrastructure Development Summit held in Durban, South Africa.

In 2015, the Fund won the African Pension Leadership Initiative of the Year Award for its diversification efforts in the equity space.

Africa Investor Summit partners include the World Pensions Council, the Institutional Limited Partners Association, the African Pension Fund Network and the African Securities Exchanges Association, amongst other prestigious institutions.
