Let the Pearl shine walk: Miss Tourism Queens clean the city centre
Miss Tourism Uganda Queens and officials joined forces with Fun Cyclists, a group of cyclers who do it for Tourism and Health to walk around the city centre as the cyclists rode on their bicycles. The major aim of the walk was to identify and clean dirty areas in the Kampala city centre.
The walk started from the Independence monument downtown to areas like Nakasero market, old taxi park, Kisenyi bus terminal and old kampala then back to Kisekka market and finally they converged again at the independence monument.
Let the pearl shine is a campaign that is aimed at seeing a clean city and this started years ago when Miss Tourism Uganda pledged to always keep the Tourism sites of Uganda clean. This, according to Ivan Lugya, the Miss Tourism Uganda National coordinator when they realized the city centre is actually dirtier as compared to the tourism sites and that’s the reason they chose to focus in the city centre.
Zakia Lucky, the former Miss Tourism Kigezi 2019 was chosen as the Ambassador of the campaign and on Sunday June 4th 2023, she brought together fellow queens from different regions like Ankole, Buganda, Busiro, Kyadondo and Busoga to take part in the cause.
The walk took place at the time when preparations are ongoing for the Miss Tourism Uganda grand finale that is slated to happen on September 9th at Serena Hotel.
