The Fresh Dairy Schools Program which is now running for the second year is aimed at educating children on nutrition with an inclination towards the consumption of 1-Yoghurt-a-Day as a healthy and nutritious snack.

The Fresh Dairy 2018 schools program is taking place in over 350 primary schools in Kampala, Wakiso and Entebbe districts.

Speaking in regards to the ongoing Fresh Dairy School Program, Marketing Manager Fresh Dairy – Vincent Omoth said, ‘Fresh Dairy is once again running the school’s program in 2018 as a strategic intervention program that uses edutainment in form of an engaging interactive and fun show, theatre, song and dance to educate children on nutrition and the benefits of consuming 1-Yoghurt-a-Day. Through the Schools Program, Fresh Dairy aims to reach at least 300,000 primary school going children throughout the ongoing first term, a time during which free yoghurt will be given out to all students for sampling to further re-emphasize the 1-Yoghurt-a-Day nutrition message.’

Yoghurt as one of the products we produce at Fresh Dairy is an ideal nutrition booster for children because it is a healthy and nutritious snack that is rich in Vitamin A, B, D, E, Calcium and Potassium,’ Omoth said.

Caroline Muchobia, Health and Nutrition Manager – Fresh Dairy said, ‘Poor nutrition compromises both the quality of life of school-aged children but also their potential to benefit from education. Attaining optimal nutrition involves eating three meals a day and two nutritious snacks, as well as limiting the intake of high sugar and high fat foods. Consuming generous amounts of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and dairy products, including three servings of milk, or yoghurt to meet their calcium requirement. Adequate nutrition of school aged children also ensures that they grow to their full potential, and provide the stepping stones to a healthy life.’

The Deputy Head Teacher Kitante Primary School, Mr. Walter Odoch thanked Fresh Dairy for choosing to run the Fresh Dairy School Program in Kitante Primary School for the second time.

“Yoghurt constitutes a balanced diet and is very beneficial,’ he said, “we shall keep on sensitizing the children.”

He urged Fresh Dairy to also include parents in their sensitization messages such that they can also embrace Fresh Dairy products.

“Thank you for choosing Kitante Primary School. We have many children and our children will take the message home.” He said.

The overall winner of the 2017 Fresh Dairy Schools Program – Yoghurt cup collection challenge, Kalinabiri Primary School – Ntinda won two water tanks worth Six Million UGX (6,000,000 UGX).
