Who is William Samoei Ruto?

Born on December 21st, 1966 in Sambut Village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County in the Rift Valley; he is one of Africa’s rising stars in politics and government

He was born and raised in a family of humble beginnings, HE Ruto has risen to the top through sheer hard-work, resilience, ambition and focus.

Having excelled at his undergraduate study, he was awarded a scholarship to do his masters degree by University of Nairobi whose research he concluded in 2008 and was awarded a masters of science in plant ecology.

This year’s theme at Young Achievers awards has a focal angle on: *”inspiring the next generation of leaders”* and this ultimately is the interlink with the choice of key note speaker DP W S. Ruto.

It is a well-established fact that Africa is the youngest continent in the world. At the moment, this youngest continent is the least economically empowered continent validating the need to have youthful sober leaders that can be able to take the reigns and strategically position Africa for the pivotal role it will play in the next 20-50 years.

As Africa engages in long term discussions and partnerships with the present global economic powerhouses, it is worth noting that fore-sighted & strategic leaders is what we need on the table to avert the looming potential of neo-colonialism.

He is happily married to Rachel Ruto and together they have six children.

He is what you would call a strong family man. Despite his hectic schedules, he always has time for his family, wife and children. Some attribute this to his strong ties to the church. In his earlier years, Samoei Ruto was a staunch member of the Africa Inland Church and served as a chairperson of the University Christian Union Choir. It was while he was serving in church (leading a prayer) back in the day that he impacted then President Daniel Arap Moi and his political journey is assumed to have started then.

In 1992, his political career started with the enactment of the Youth for KANU movement and he has never looked back.
