Kampala’s Top Bars Awarded at Cocktail Week Finale

On Tuesday evening during the Kampala Cocktail Week 2017 finale, the Alchemist Cocktail Bar won acclaim for their great display in menu, ambiance and wow factor and were awarded People’s Choice Cocktail Bar 2017, while The Embers won an accolade for the most innovative cocktail, Ron Collins during the 10 day experience.

The other cocktail serves that won accolades were the Banana Republic cocktail by Mythos Greek Taverna and Fresh Kiss by Alchemist cocktail bar.

The awards that were held at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel were organized by Uganda Breweries leading spirit brand, Uganda Waragi and The Pearl Guide to mark the grand finale of the third edition of Kampala Cocktail Week which ran from November 29 to December 9, 2017.

The awards recognized outstanding bars and cocktail outlets that best promoted and drove sales during the 10-day cocktail experience. The third edition of the 10-day cocktail tasting experience was organized for cocktail lovers to enjoy creative and refined drinking experiences at 30 top bars in Kampala.

Through Kampala Cocktail Week over the last three years, Uganda Waragi, Uganda’s premium gin has championed the cocktail agenda with crafty serves while ensuring that every year, bars are nudged to go that extra mile to ensure delivery of perfect serves and a customer experience bound to leave a lasting impression.

The grand finale also saw the Master Bar Academy award bartenders for their skill in the bar and mixologist trade. The MBA, which is organized and held under Uganda Breweries Limited every year, is aimed at up-skilling bartenders on delivering professional bartending service and has trained over 37,750 bar tenders worldwide, and 25o in Uganda.

Five top bartenders out of a total of thirty five who have been undergoing training with the MBA this year, participated in a cocktail challenge where the finalist walked away with a cash prize of $1,000 and an iPad.

Richard Banyenzaki who emerged winner and works at Guvnor beat four others: Yowasi Owora from Liquid Silk, Ronald Otim from Vegas Mbarara, Amos Kule from Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort and Brian Rwakihembo from Brisk in the mixology challenge.
