Hon. Anite intensifies constituency visits to give accountability

Koboko Municipality MP who also doubles as the State Minister for Finance in charge of Investment is currently busy traversing her constituency to give accountability ahead of 2021 General elections.

From last week, Anite has been visiting institutions, villages and launching new programs in the area.
On Friday, she officiated over the launch of the refugee response framework project dubbed “Technical assistance to Koboko Municipality under the theme: inclusive urban development and mobility in Koboko, Uganda.”

The main purpose of the project which is to run from 2020 – 2022 is to help Koboko Municipality address the dual challenges of the growing number of displaced persons that have settled within the Municipality and wider urbanisation.
The project will help the Municipality through strengthening its urban planning and service provision as well as creating spaces of communal dialogue.
This will help improve on the living conditions and opportunities for refugees and their host communities which will likely decrease the risk of conflict between these groups.
Uganda is one of the largest refugee-hosting nations in the world and this is largely attributed to its peace and stability.
“Refugees can’t host refugees” I therefore reiterate that Ugandan youth shouldn’t trivialize the peace and stability we have in this great nation but rather cherish it,” she said.
On Sunday, she attended a great church service at Nyangilia Church of Uganda and other places of worship in the area.
She later inspected the construction of the new  St Paul’s Church in Koboko Archdeaconry, which H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni offered 1.1 billion towards its construction.
Upon completion, this church being built in memory of the late Archbishop Silvanus Wani will be the biggest in West Nile.
She proceeded to share a delicious meal with the congregation as she listened to some of the issues affecting them.
On Monday,  the MP visited three schools in Koboko municipality; Ombaci Self Help, Nyarilo P/S and Teremunga Primary School with a combined total of 7000 pupils.
She donated books and other learning materials to all schools and pledged to provide more support from both herself and the Government of Uganda.
During the address to the pupils especially the  girls, she advised them to always remember and keep reminding themselves that their bodies are the Lord’s temple and must therefore abstain from sexual immorality.
She encouraged them to always report any form of Sexual Harassment to either their parents, teachers or authorities.
On Tuesday, she spent the day visiting Noor Islamic nursery, Birijaku P/S & Ogo P/S all in Koboko Municipality where she distributed scholastic materials and also had several discussions with teachers about ways to improve their teaching and learning environment.
‪During the school visits, she emphasized the need to intensify the battle against early pregnancy and sexual harassment in schools.‬
“Adolescent pregnancy is a major contributor to maternal and child mortality and has various negative social & economic effects on girls and their families,” Hon. said.
‪Despite the challenges, The MP said she was pleased to see a great improvement in these schools’ performance since her last visit a year ago.
She implored teachers to constantly encourage parents to get directly involved in children’s education regardless of their income. This helps kids do better in and out of school.‬
“Education is one of the things I hold very near and dear to my heart and it’s certainly no secret that children are the future pillars of Uganda and therefore a worthy asset.
In that spirit, this week, I will be visiting all schools in Koboko municipality,” She said.
During her school visits in Koboko municipality, Hon. Anite will also be conducting mentoring sessions and donating scholastic materials as an effort to improve on the pupils’ educational experience.
Uganda has the youngest population and therefore investing in the future generation is vital.
