Didi Nelisha talks about her love for live music which led to the start of Lysha Band
To Didi, Live Music has been and still is a journey for herself and she loves it.
To her, its gets beautiful each day and she remembers first time getting on that stage to try out for the first time in 2013, it was exciting, exhilarating but also a challenge as the band director who decided to give her a chance after she looked out for bands, begging them to give her a chance to showcase what she had always admired being on that live band setting.

“My opportunity came at the time i was spotted by this band director, Mumo was his name it was a Karaoke night, he approached me, i can still recall the big smile on his face like there there I found treasure it’s well what seemed to me I could imagine was going through his head, so there he gave me a chance though he had warned me that live band is not like karaoke, well it didn’t make sense I was ready I didn’t care it was my time to shine as I always wanted it to be,” Nelisha recalls.

“A lady singer Janet (RIP) who mentored me was sweet, I really miss her, she would teach me the basics i always had challenges but she would help me push through, teach me the music band politics and how to carry myself around let’s say if I had messed up on the previous shows”.
Along the way, Nelisha met many challenges and she became a freelance vocalist.
Because she loves karaoke too, so she would host shows actually they did pay more in Nairobi than band which had so much politics and damn it was pure evil at times but pushing forward she decided to step back to her Mama Land, do something else and prolly still do band.

At that time, it didn’t go as she planned and she was only doing freelance vocalism with a few Bands here and there back then from the Nairobi visits to Kampala, she met one in Kampala who gave her a platform here in K-Town.
They set off worked as a team for three months and she was off again back to freelancing.
Her former friend called her to a gig or two in Kalangala but the second one, she didn’t make cause she got an accident and he had refused to pay her even for the first gig.
“Later, I met many other bands first forward to what they called the painful lockdown for two years no work I wasn’t versatile I was and still is depending on live band but looking into other ventures”.
But as she was still planning, the idea of making her own band chipped in and three months ago, Lysha Band was born.
She teamed up with colleagues and they are (them) to grow it.

Didi says they love what they do, yes they have challenges but coming together after a long time as a team met on different gigs around Kampala as we were freelancing is working miracles.
The team is great, try them out, you won’t regret it.
Their goal is to bring music to life and life to music, you name it and they do most of the genres including; raggae, dancehall, uptown funk, RnB, new naija, new Kampala Ugandan hits and oldies, soul, 80s, 90s, rhumba, lingala, soft rock, country, love songs.
“We will be glad to perform for you and take you on Lysha Band flight,” she concluded.
