By Kenneth Kimuli
Entebbe Aviation Police boss Caleb Mwesigye aka Kamoga breathed his last today morning. Many friends have described him as a great man but one man who studied with him comedian Pablo tells us the story of how great Caleb was.

The plan was to stand for food prefect just to make the election interesting. Caleb embraced the idea. He didn’t agree with the skeptics that thought my mosquito weight and height deficiency would knock me out of the race. He believed my motor mouth, at the time, was all I needed to win the vote.

It was a tradition in Mbarara High School that a food prefect had to be well built, ate like a bear, and mean looking. I didn’t have either of those qualities. I almost chickened out of the race but Caleb being an athlete told me one has to finish the race.
He volunteered to be one of my campaign managers and boy, he run around the entire school hunting for votes. The entire election was very comic because we had no manifesto.

To cut the story short, we won the race. I had never seen Caleb excited like that day. We made history as the shortest, smallest folk to win with 92% of the vote. It was the dawn of a new era.

RIP: Caleb
A few days later, he asked me to run along with him one morning. He was fast, fun & friendly. His nickname was Kamoga after Uganda’s famous athlete. He had the courtesy to wait for me an hour later.
Happiness almost killed me when I found him in full police uniform at Entebbe airport a few years ago. I had no idea he had joined the forces. He was the in charge at the airport. I cracked him up with the good-old-days stories. I asked him if he was still into running. He told me had stopped the manual bit of it and was now chasing crime at the airport.
My brother and friend SSP Caleb Mwesigye, God knows why He chose to take you home this morning. You fought the good fight, run the race to the end. I’m glad you gave your life to Christ.
