  • Kwetu Kwanza Fashion Festival set to rock Nyege Nyege: A Portal for creative rebirth & regenerative fashion

Kwetu Kwanza Fashion Festival set to rock Nyege Nyege: A Portal for creative rebirth & regenerative fashion

Kampala: The world-renowned Nyege Nyege Festival is thrilled to announce its landmark 10th anniversary edition, taking place from November 20–23, 2025, at the breathtaking Kalagala Falls in Kangulumira, Uganda.

Set against a backdrop of 40 acres of pristine riverside wilderness, this year’s festival is themed Ekyigunda Ky’omuliro – The Gathering of the Flame, symbolizing unity, culture, and the enduring spirit of celebration.

Over four unforgettable days, festival goers will immerse themselves in an extraordinary experience featuring five dynamic stages and 300 acts that span a diverse array of genres including electronic, hip hop, dancehall, amapiano, afrobeats, live bands, and traditional sounds from across Africa and beyond.

In tandem with this vibrant celebration, the Kwetu Kwanza Fashion Festival returns for its sixth annual edition as East Africa’s leading platform for circular and regenerative fashion. Founded by the fashion label IGC Fashion, which is committed to advancing indigenous fashion in Uganda, Kwetu Kwanza means “Ours First” in Swahili, embodying the belief that the planet must come first.

This festival will host a diverse array of designers, filmmakers, performers, artists, and cultural practitioners, all dedicated to interrogating the ethics, origins, and impacts of what we wear. It serves as a countercurrent to extractive systems, challenging narrow definitions of sustainability that often overlook the African experience and history of sustainable fashion.

For the first time, Kwetu Kwanza will take place on-site at the Nyege Nyege Festival, marking a significant step forward in a partnership that began last year in Jinja in the City. This convergence between two major cultural platforms aims to reach new audiences and create tangible connections among music, fashion, dance, and theatre.

In African traditions, these art forms have always been intertwined, and through innovative collaborations between designers, musicians, and the textile and audio fields—developed within artist residencies hosted at Nyege Villa and the IGC Fashion Residency—this partnership signals an important shift in the region’s creative landscape.

Kwetu Kwanza’s 6th edition at Nyege Nyge with the theme “What Can Emerge from Collapse?” invites reflection on creative rebirth in times of breakdown. Just as Nyege Nyege’s underground music scene thrives by transforming raw chaos into new rhythms, Kwetu Kwanza’s designers, artists, practitioners, and filmmakers will reimagine collapse as a fertile ground for creation.

The breakdown of fast-fashion systems mirrors wider environmental and social crises, yet within this disintegration lies the potential for renewal, where forgotten fabrics, discarded materials, and neglected traditions become the seeds of innovation.

Attendees can look forward to a fashion exhibition showcasing over 30 designers from the continent and beyond, live performances that highlight the interplay of music, fashion, and dance, and daily workshops on screen printing, tailoring, audio and textile co-manipulation, and indigenous material techniques. The festival will also feature film screenings, including the Ugandan premiere of Resurgence of Lubugo by Hannah Allchurch and IGC Fashion, alongside more than 20 independent vendors in the marketplace and engaging daily talks.

Kwetu Kwanza will be located next to the Hakuna Kulala Stage at the Nyege Nyege Festival, Adrift Overland, Kayunga. Tickets for the Nyege Nyege Festival are now available at nyegenyege.com/tickets

Nyege Nyege Ekigunda Ky’omuliro, the gathering of the flame is powered by the Ministry of Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Tourism Board, NRG Radio, NBS TV, Adrift Overland Camp & River Club, Trace TV, Flycorp, Uganda Waragi, and Talent Africa Group.

  • Abryanz unleashes ‘The AB Legacy Collection’ a futuristic dialogue between style, consciousness & legacy

Abryanz unleashes ‘The AB Legacy Collection’ a futuristic dialogue between style, consciousness & legacy

Kampala: The Abryanz brand is up again with a dynamic fashion theme dubbed ‘The AB Legacy Collection, a bold declaration of evolution, consciousness, and creative identity which was unveiled today.

Blending cinematic futurism with African luxury and cultural confidence, the AB is guided by the Matrix’s iconic metaphor of choice, the blue or orange pill.

This collection represents a journey of awakening and reinvention. A call to embrace transformation over complacency. This philosophy takes visual form through a vibrant palette of electric blue and radiant orange, inspired by the digital universe of the iconic film “Tron: Legacy”.

These colors transcend aesthetics, symbolizing forward thinking, duality, and the pulse of “nowness” that defines Abryanz’s modern vision.

“The AB Legacy Collection is a mirror of our evolution and an affirmation of courage, individuality and purpose,” says Brian Ahumuza, Founder and Brand Visionary of Abryanz. “It’s about legacy in motion and real-time, preserving where we come from while imagining what’s next.”

Developed in creative collaboration with Sir Abner Makgamatha (SA), who serves as the brand’s Creative Director, the campaign and collection visualise a new frontier for Abryanz.

One that merges design, storytelling and cultural symbolism. Together Ahumuza and Abner have built a world where luxury transcends garments, becoming a form of visual and emotional architecture.

Cinematically captured through super slow-motion storytelling and minimalist futuristic set design, the campaign embodies a world where light, motion and emotion converge and a metaphor of how Abryanz continues to bridge fashion, technology and philosophy.

This ethos expanded beyond the studio into the main collection runway showcase, presented at the Kampala Style Brunch themed “The Matrix.”

Here, the AB Legacy narrative came to life. In a multi-sensory experience of sound, light and movement that translated the brand’s futuristic ideals into a tangible cultural moment that Uganda will never forget.

The show solidified Abryanz’s role as both designer and visionary crafting experiences that challenge perception and celebrate transformation. The movement extends into the ongoing digital campaign, inviting fans and consumers to immerse themselves in the Abryanz universe.

Through curated content, behind-the-scenes moments, and immersive visuals across the brand’s social platforms, audiences are encouraged to explore how The AB Legacy Collection lives beyond the runway as a conversation, a mindset and a lifestyle.

With this collection, Abryanz redefines what African luxury looks like in the digital age merging artistry with innovation to create a living legacy that is both timeless and ahead.
