    YEMI ALADE ALBUM STATEMENT:

For the first time ever, I decided to randomly seek the help of my fans. I put the question out online and asked them what they thought my next album should be called. The response was overwhelming. I received so many suggestions, but one title kept coming up again and again: ‘It’s Yemi Alade.’ So, in many ways, this is a fan-picked album title, even though it is also self-named. I love that distinction. It feels refreshing to do something different, to give the people I make music for a voice in something as personal and important as naming the album. This time, I allowed my community to make that decision with me.

At its heart, this album is a reminder to the people who have been listening since day one of the journey and a warm introduction to the new members of my community. It is a celebration of evolution without losing identity, a body of work that says, after all these years, this is still me. This is still my sound. This is still Yemi Alade. And this time, my fans helped give it a name.

‘IT’S YEMI ALADE’ is out worldwide via Effyzzie Music.

  • What next for Okoobah Shakirah Kadhanah? Miss Tourism East Africa First Runner-Up sets her sights on community change

What next for Okoobah Shakirah Kadhanah? Miss Tourism East Africa First Runner-Up sets her sights on community change

From the cultural heart of Busoga to the regional tourism stage, Okoobah says her crown is only the beginning

    By Brian Mugenyi

Kampala: One by one, the dream that once appeared distant is becoming reality for Shakira Okoobah, Uganda’s newly crowned Miss Tourism East Africa first runner-up.

When the final results were announced at the colourful regional pageant in Kampala on Saturday night, Okoobah’s journey moved into a new chapter.

The crown may have gone to Zam Zam Godana, but Uganda had every reason to celebrate.

Okoobah had carried the country’s flag to the regional podium, finishing as first runner-up in a competition that brought together young women from across East Africa to showcase beauty, culture, tourism and leadership.

For Busoga, the achievement was particularly personal.

Celebrations followed in parts of the region and in Okoobah’s home community, where friends, relatives and supporters gathered to celebrate what many described as a historic moment for one of their own.

The Kampala finale was equally memorable.

As the lights illuminated the stage at the Kampala Marriott Hotel, camera shutters filled the room while contestants, dignitaries, organisers and supporters waited for the final announcement.

The event was organised by Masrob Events, with Ketty Nabaweesi, the organisation’s Operations Manager, among those involved in the preparations.

For this writer, the evening meant missing a journalism and mass communication lecture in order to witness an event that had brought together tourism, culture, media and regional diplomacy under one roof.

A PODIUM FINISH, BUT A BIGGER MISSION

For Okoobah, however, the first-runner-up position is not the end of the story.

It is the beginning of a bigger responsibility.

She says she intends to use the platform created by the pageant to advocate for issues affecting communities, particularly environmental conservation and the girl child.

“I shall advocate for change in the community as well as advocating for community environment conservation and the girl child,” Okoobah said.

That statement could become the defining message of her reign.

The Miss Tourism East Africa platform gives her an opportunity to speak not only about beauty, but about the communities and cultural heritage she represents.

    THE BUSOGA PRIDE

Throughout the competition, Okoobah’s connection to Busoga remained visible.

Her achievement has given the region another reason to celebrate its culture, identity and young talent.

On the final night, she appeared on stage in cultural-inspired attire that reflected her Ugandan identity and added another dimension to her presentation.

To supporters, her composure, confidence and stage presence demonstrated why she had emerged as one of the strongest representatives in the competition.

But beyond the glamour was a young woman increasingly positioning herself as a voice for community development.

    FROM BEAUTY TO ADVOCACY

The challenge ahead for Okoobah will be turning the visibility created by the crown into measurable community impact.

    Tourism provides a natural platform.

Uganda has cultural sites, lakes, forests, wildlife, traditional institutions and communities whose stories remain largely unknown outside their immediate surroundings.

A tourism ambassador can help connect those stories to wider regional and international audiences.

For Okoobah, environmental conservation is equally important.

The future of tourism depends heavily on protecting the very resources that attract visitors.

Communities must therefore see tourism not simply as entertainment, but as an opportunity for employment, enterprise and conservation.

    THE GIRL-CHILD AGENDA

Her decision to focus on the girl child also places her within a wider conversation about education, confidence, leadership and opportunity for young women.

The pageant has given Okoobah a platform.

The next step is deciding how to use it.

    Will she visit schools?

Will she work with community organisations?

    Will she promote environmental campaigns?

Will she use digital platforms to tell Uganda’s tourism story?

These are the questions that will ultimately determine the legacy of her reign.

A CROWN WITHOUT A FINISH LINE

On Saturday night, Okoobah did not return home empty-handed.

She returned with a regional title, increased visibility and a platform capable of reaching audiences beyond Uganda.

Her journey from Busoga to the Miss Tourism East Africa podium demonstrates what resilience, patience and dedication can achieve.

But perhaps the most important chapter is yet to be written.

    The applause has faded.

    The cameras have moved on.

The flowers and celebrations in Busoga will eventually settle.

What remains is the responsibility that comes with the title.

For Shakira Okoobah, the question is no longer whether she can wear the crown.

She has already proved that she can.

The real question is what she will do with the platform after the crown.

  • Kirabira, KCCA take on Kampala’s noise crisis as Bar owners urged to soundproof their venues

Kirabira, KCCA take on Kampala’s noise crisis as Bar owners urged to soundproof their venues

Socialite President calls for responsible nightlife, sound engineering and cooperation from landlords and entertainment operators

    By Brian Mugenyi

Kampala: For years, residents living near entertainment venues across Kampala have complained about loud music, late-night disturbances and noise spilling from bars into surrounding neighbourhoods.

Now, Socialite President Edson Kirabira, also Civil Coordinator for Operation Wealth Creation in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, says he is working with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to promote a new approach to managing noise from bars and entertainment establishments.

The initiative is aimed at sensitising bar owners, landlords and entertainment operators on responsible sound management, including the use of soundproof structures and appropriate sound-engineering systems.

Kirabira says the campaign is intended to address complaints from residents who have endured excessive noise for years.

He says the solution should not rely only on enforcement, but also on education, cooperation and modern technology.

    ‘LET US WORK TOGETHER’

Speaking during a media briefing, Kirabira appealed to bar owners and landlords to cooperate with the initiative.

“Dear members of the public, I am advising the bar owners to work with us and accept to be lectured and monitored,” he said.

Kirabira said the programme will include an induction and sensitisation exercise for bar owners and landlords.

The training, according to him, will introduce operators to modern approaches to furniture, building design and sound engineering that can help contain music within entertainment premises.

He argued that entertainment and responsible neighbourhood living should be able to coexist.

    KCCA ROLE IN CITY ORDER

The initiative comes as KCCA continues to emphasise orderly management of Kampala and enforcement of city regulations.

The current KCCA Executive Director is Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, whose office is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Authority and overseeing service delivery, enforcement of ordinances and bylaws, trade and order, and community mobilisation.

KCCA has previously emphasised that trade order and enforcement should be conducted professionally and with consideration for residents and business operators.

Kirabira says cooperation between community leaders, KCCA and entertainment operators can help address noise complaints without unnecessarily disrupting legitimate businesses.

    MUSIC, BUT WITH RESPONSIBILITY

The campaign does not seek to eliminate entertainment, Kirabira said.

Rather, he wants bar owners to ensure that music is played at responsible levels and that sound systems are properly installed to minimise disturbance to neighbouring homes and businesses.

“Music is for all the people,” he said, while stressing the need to balance entertainment with environmental and community concerns.

For residents, the issue is particularly important in densely populated areas where homes, businesses, bars, restaurants and other establishments operate within close proximity.

    JUMA MUWEESI APPLAUDS INITIATIVE

Mr. Juma Muweesi praised Kirabira for taking the lead in the sensitisation campaign, saying the initiative could help create greater awareness among entertainment operators.

He said the work requires continued monitoring and cooperation between stakeholders.

Muweesi also described Kirabira’s wider community mobilisation activities, including his coordination role and involvement with Radio Uganda Village, as important platforms for communicating development messages to communities.

Meanwhile, Juma Tinyefuze, chairman of Chimon, commended KCCA authorities for their efforts to improve order and public welfare in Kampala.

    A CITY LOOKING FOR BALANCE

Kampala’s entertainment industry supports thousands of workers, including musicians, DJs, waiters, security guards, transport operators and other small-business owners.

For that reason, stakeholders argue that noise management must balance residents’ right to a peaceful environment with the economic importance of nightlife and entertainment.

Kirabira’s proposed approach is to encourage operators to invest in better sound systems and soundproofing rather than treating every complaint as a confrontation.

The proposed induction sessions are expected to provide bar owners and landlords with practical guidance on responsible sound management.

For Kampala residents who have spent years complaining about excessive noise, the real test will be whether sensitisation translates into quieter neighbourhoods.

For entertainment operators, the challenge will be demonstrating that nightlife and responsible urban living can exist side by side.

As Kampala continues to grow into a busier and more densely populated capital, the debate over noise is becoming part of a much larger question: how can a modern city protect both the right to entertainment and the right to peace?

Kirabira believes the answer begins with cooperation.

And for Kampala, the volume may soon need to come down.

  • KCB KOBs end Trophy wait in style, lift Kyabazinga 7s Crown

KCB KOBs end Trophy wait in style, lift Kyabazinga 7s Crown

Jinja: KCB KOBs have finally got their hands on gold. After coming agonisingly close in previous stops of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series, the Blue Army turned persistence into silverware on Sunday, overcoming Rams RFC 22–19 in a thrilling Kyabazinga 7s final at Bugembe Stadium in Jinja.

The victory marks KCB KOBs’ first tournament triumph of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series, and could not have come at a more crucial point in their campaign, with only one stop remaining. More importantly, it was the manner of the victory that sent a message.

KCB KOBs did not lose a single game throughout the two-day tournament, finishing the weekend with 127 points scored and only 72 conceded across six matches, a commanding display of attacking firepower and defensive resilience. The road to the trophy, however, was anything but easy. The team opened their campaign on Saturday in Pool C with a 17–10 victory over Rams RFC, before beating Mbale Elephants 31–21.

They completed the pool stage with a 19–10 win over Plascon Mongers, finishing unbeaten and booking their place in the knockout stages. They then returned on Sunday with the same intensity and dismantled Plascon Mongers 26–7 in the quarterfinal, before edging Stanbic Black Pirates 12–5 in a tense semifinal, setting up a repeat meeting with Rams RFC in the title decider. The final proved to be the sternest test of the weekend.Rams came out firing and put KCB KOBs under immediate pressure, taking their chances early to establish a 12–5 half-time lead. But rather than buckle, the boys dug deep, absorbed the pressure and came roaring back after the break.

Brian Wandera and Shafik Okole crossed for tries, before Josiah Ssempeke and Rasul Abiriga added further scores as KCB KOBs turned up the attacking pressure. Rams mounted a late response, but the Blue Army held their composure and shape to close out a dramatic 22–19 victory and claim the Kyabazinga 7s crown.

Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda, congratulated the team on the breakthrough victory, noting that the triumph reflects the values that continue to drive both the club and its partnership with KCB Bank Uganda. “This victory is a powerful reminder that success is often built through persistence. KCB KOBs have continued to show up, compete, and push themselves even when the results did not immediately go their way, and this trophy is a reward for that resilience. We are proud to stand with them and celebrate this important milestone. At KCB Bank Uganda, we believe in supporting platforms that nurture talent, build confidence, and give young people the opportunity to excel. This win is a celebration for everyone who believes in the power of sport to inspire and transform lives.”

The win has also significantly strengthened the team’s position in the race for the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series title. The side entered the Kyabazinga 7s in fourth place with 60 series points. Their tournament victory earned them 22 additional points, taking their tally to 82 points with one stop remaining.

For KOBs captain Josiah Ssempeke, it is the beginning of something bigger. “It feels great to win the Kyabazinga 7s after having near misses in the previous stops. It’s going to be a stepping stone for us in general to get back to fighting for Gold in both 7s and 15s. We’ll maintain the same focus going into the last stop and hope for the best.”

KOBs 7s Coach Trevor Tusiime believes the victory is the result of a system that has been steadily building throughout the season. “We have been knocking on the door for quite a while. I think the squad has been performing tremendously well over the stops, with progress in every circuit regardless of who is playing and who is not. I am not shocked we are winning it at this stage; rather, the system was not built for immediate glory but to stick for years of future 7s success regardless of who is playing. This victory will push a certain positive energy moving forward; one would call it KCB KOBs back.”

Attention now shifts to the Kabaka Coronation 7s, the Grand Finale of the Uganda Rugby 7s Series, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at Mutesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku. With the Uganda Cup season also on the horizon, KCB KOBs will be looking to carry the momentum from Jinja into the next chapter of their campaign. After spending much of the season knocking on the door, the Blue Army have finally broken through. They have their trophy. Now, the real question is: can they turn this breakthrough into a championship run?

Manchester divided: Carrick and Maresca renew the rivalry in Manchester derby live on SuperSport this Sunday

Old Trafford stages the first Manchester derby of the new Premier League campaign on Sunday 13 September, with Manchester United and Manchester City entering a new chapter in one of English football’s fiercest rivalries.

United will take confidence from the most recent meeting between the sides, having claimed a memorable 2-0 victory in January 2026. It was a particularly significant occasion for Michael Carrick, as the former United midfielder took charge for the first time after succeeding Ruben Amorim.

Erling Haaland of Manchester City in action during the English Premier League match Manchester City against Coventry City FC, in Manchester, Britain, 05 September 2026

Initially appointed as interim manager, Carrick quickly impressed enough to earn the position on a permanent basis, and another derby victory would provide a powerful statement about the progress of his tenure. Carrick is relishing the occasion and has already called on the Old Trafford faithful to play their part.

“The big games are what we all live for. It’s why we are here. We will go for it head on,” he said, urging supporters to arrive with “enthusiasm, energy” and an expectation that something special could happen. City, meanwhile, arrive under a completely different leadership structure. After a hugely successful era under Pep Guardiola, Enzo Maresca has taken over the managerial reins, bringing a fresh tactical approach and the challenge of establishing a new identity.

The transformation has extended beyond the dugout. City have been aggressive in the transfer market, bringing in highly regarded young talents including Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi, while allowing established figures such as Rodri and Omar Marmoush to depart. The changes point towards a significant evolution of Guardiola’s former squad. That makes the derby particularly fascinating. United have continuity in Carrick, a manager who knows the club intimately and has already experienced the emotional intensity of this fixture.

City, by contrast, are embarking on a new era under Maresca, with new personnel and potentially new tactical ideas.Yet derby football rarely follows a script. City’s new-look squad will be determined to establish its credentials, while United will want to demonstrate that their January victory was more than a one-off moment. With Old Trafford providing the backdrop, Carrick seeking another landmark victory and Maresca facing his first taste of Manchester derby pressure, Sunday’s clash promises to be about far more than three points. It is the latest instalment in a rivalry entering a fascinating new era.

Tactical Battle: Michael Carrick v Enzo Maresca

The tactical battle between Michael Carrick and Enzo Maresca promises to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the Manchester derby. Carrick has shown a willingness to balance structure with attacking ambition, and his priority will be ensuring United can press City without leaving dangerous spaces behind.

At Old Trafford, he may look to use quick transitions and the pace of his forwards to exploit City when possession is lost. Maresca faces the challenge of imposing his philosophy on a City side undergoing significant change. His teams typically favour controlled possession, positional rotations and building attacks patiently from the back. Against United, however, excessive commitment to that approach could leave City vulnerable to the counter. The key battle may therefore be over where the game is played. Carrick will want United to disrupt City’s build-up and turn turnovers into rapid attacks, while Maresca will look to maintain territorial control and force United to defend for long periods. Whoever wins that contest could dictate the derby.

    Players To Watch

    Manchester United – Bruno Fernandes

Position: MidfielderMan Utd stats: 329 appearances, 110 goals

Bruno Fernandes will be central to Manchester United’s attacking ambitions, operating as the creative link between midfield and attack. His ability to find pockets of space, play incisive passes and deliver from set pieces could be crucial against City’s possession-based approach. Fernandes will also need to lead United’s press, helping disrupt City’s build-up while remaining disciplined enough to prevent dangerous spaces opening around him.

    Manchester City – Erling Haaland

Position: ForwardMan City stats: 201 appearances, 164 goals

Erling Haaland will remain Manchester City’s most dangerous attacking weapon, with his movement in and around the penalty area likely to test United’s defensive structure. His ability to occupy centre-backs, attack crosses and finish with minimal touches makes him a constant threat. Haaland’s runs behind the defence could also create space for City’s attacking midfielders, while his physical presence will challenge United throughout.

United twice surrendered the lead before Michael Owen struck a 96th-minute winner, prompting one of the most iconic celebrations of the Premier League era. Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United, 2018 – City could have clinched the title with victory, but United produced a remarkable comeback. Paul Pogba scored twice before Chris Smalling completed the turnaround, although City eventually celebrated the championship later that season. Manchester City 1-6 Manchester United, 2011 – One of the most extraordinary results in derby history. United dismantled City at the Etihad, with Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher among the scorers. Mario Balotelli’s famous “Why Always Me?” celebration provided another memorable image. Manchester City 3-2 Manchester United, 2012 – Sergio Agüero delivered one of the most famous moments in Premier League history.
