    Who is Muyanja Mbabaali?

    Muyanja Mbabaali is a Ugandan politician/businessman born in Masaka in October 1953. He represented the people of Bukoto South in Parliament in 2011-12 which is now in Lwengo district. He is married. He speaks Luganda, English and Swahili. He is regarded as one of the hardest working politician/businessman who has connected several investors with beneficial projects to the government.Muyanja MbabaaliMuyanja Mbabaali

    Education
    He attended Kikungwe Primary school in Masaka in late 60s then Mengo SS for his O’Level from 1971-74. In 1998, he did a diploma in business management at Datapo Business Institute. He also attended a diploma in accountancy at APAS and then later he joined Nkumba University where he did a bachelors degree in Social Sciences in Public Administration and Management. He got a second class with honours (Upper Division at Nkumba University. Mbabaali was recognised with the certificate after he passed University Mature Age Entry Scheme Examination of Makerere University.

    Politics
    He joined active politics in 1995 and stood for Member of Parliament In 2011 for Bukoto South constituency in Lwengo district. He won and lost his seat after his academic papers were challenged. However, in January 2014, Director of Public Prosecution and Criminal Investigation Department dropped charges of criminal on alleged forgery and utterance of false academic documents. He was cleaned and is free to participate in general election in 2016.

    Government Working Experience
    In February 1997-98, he was the chairman Uganda Rwanda joint committee for Trade and Investment under Uganda National Chamber of Commerce.
    In 1998-2004, he was Director, Chairman Finance and Procurement National Medical Stores under the Ministry of Health.
    In 2007-2011, he was Director, Chairman of Finance and Procurement Uganda Air Cargo under the Ministry of Defence.
    In 2009, he was the Vice chairman of Electricity Tariff Review Committee for Umeme. From 2010- to date, he is the chairman NRM Lwengo District.

    Business Profile
    He has wide and extensive engagement in corporate business work involving local and international relations.
    Mbabaali engaged in the development process of Uganda through private and public sector partnerships. He participated and attended several international conferences and seminars on social, economic and political development.     Representative of IMCO Pipes – Greece 1981-1985
    1982-87 Chairman and founder of INTREPCO Ltd in Uganda, Service Company. Represented several international companies worldwide and won big contracts.
    1983- 87 Agent East German (GDR) in Uganda in charge of Barter Trade between Uganda government and East German. Huge volumes of goods were bartered contracts.
    1987 to date, Chairman and founder of former 3M Corporation and MFK Corporation involved in property development and farming on large scale, and majoring in industrial chemicals.
    1996-2002, Executive Director and founder of Southern Investments Limited, Kampala, Uganda majoring in property development and representing several companies e.g Impregilo which constructed the Hydro power dam at Jinja, Uganda, Arab Consulting Engineers currently rehabilitating the Kampala City main drainage channel(Nakivubo channel).
    1997-2000 Chairman Uganda –Rwanda Joint Committee for Trade and investment under Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Supported the lifting of trade sanctions on Burundi. Promoted border to border trade between Uganda and Rwanda.

A local oracle partner providing structural management consultancy services related to information technology and human resource management.

    Awards/Achievements
    In 2007, he won the award with Uganda Chamber of Commerce for excellent work while he was the chairman Joint Committee for Trade and Investment for Rwanda, Burundi and DR.Congo
    He won National Medical Stores award for his contribution when he worked there.
    He also won an award with Uganda Air Cargo for his outstanding performance.
    He was the Member of Parliament for Bukoto South 2011-2012.
    His Excellency the President of the Republic Of Uganda appointed him the Minister of State for Investment in 2011.

    Why Priscilla Opted For Diapers’ Business?

    The wellness diapers/pull-ups are a new baby diaper brand on the market designed/made by Priscilla Ray. I was inspired by a friend’s baby. My friend had a baby and was always complaining about all the diaper brands, if they weren’t leaking then they were so insensitive to the baby’s skin. Then I got an idea, why not design a diaper that was sort of perfect, something that eliminated all the problems that the other diapers had. I was sure if my friend had this problem then other mothers were facing the same.     We embarked on research as soon as I came up with the idea. We talked to retailers (to get what response they got from their clients) and individuals asked if they were satisfied with the brands they were using/selling and if they weren’t satisfied, what they wanted improved. We did a lot of research and planning and finally when I was ready I started designing the packages and travelling to inspect factories to see the one most suitable to produce the Wellness brand. I made sure I was present during the production process to ensure everything was made to my standard.

    The wellness diapers have a higher absorbency capacity; they absorb fluids faster than some other brands that are made of fluff pulp. They have a wetness indicator which reminds the mother to change the diaper. They have a breathable ultra-thin back sheet which is recommended for warm and higher temperature areas/tropical areas. They have Double leak guards which Prevent leakage more effectively.     My long term goal is to make wellness a household brand not only in Uganda but Africa. I’m planning to make a whole range of baby and mother products but i’m not limited to that, i have many ideas floating in my head.., I’m planning to make new products and to improve on some that already exist in the market. Since we hit the market two weeks ago we have had a very positive response. We are now in talks with the major supermarkets; our product should be there soon. Also many retailers and whole sellers all over the city and outskirts have already stocked the wellness diapers.

    Aisha worked for KFM before she left for Global Trust Bank about three years ago but she is now back at her former work station after Global Trust Bank was closed by Bank of Uganda for accumulated debts last month.
