The government has suspended the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Buhweju on allegations of interfering with church activities. Following a scuffle between him and the Christians in Bihanga on January, 30th 2016, Mr. Moses Mwebesa has been suspended to pave way for thorough investigations.
It’s alleged that on 30th Jan 2016, Mr Moses Mwebesa accompanied by security officers and the Buhweju district DPC stormed St Kiziito church in Bihanga and ordered Christians who were engaged in overnight prayers to leave.
The RDC accused the church priest Fr. Keneth Beingana of holding prayers without permission. It is further alleged that the RDC confiscated the public system for the church including a microphone on which he ordered believers to leave the place.
His suspension was confirmed by the Minister in charge of the Presidency Frank Tumwebaze. “We have removed the RDC of Buhweju to investigate the allegations. If he acted irregularly he will be punished. But if he is being framed because of local politics on the ground we shall also know. Katera Emmy the current deputy RDC of Mbarara has been sent there as a caretaker the station,” Frank said.
