It was a memorable fun-filled night on Friday 1st July 2016 at Singer Angella Katatumba’s maiden VIP concert dubbed ‘Mulago Yaffe Charity Concert’ at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
People started entering the hall at 6:00PM. They were welcomed to laughter-inducing Daniel Omara who doubled as the main MC of the evening.
Katatumba stepped on stage at 8:30pm in an eye catching brown dress. Fans applauded her as she got on stage and were left in amazement even before she started doing what she did best-live singing.
Angella’s voice was her crowning glory
At the concert, she was famed for her powerful, rich, soothing and extremely wide vocal range. She performed her songs ‘Mulago Yaffe’, ‘Supernatural Girl’, ‘The Pledge’, ‘For You Gulu’ and ‘I Live For You’.
She also performed covers like ‘Greatest Love Of All (Whitney Houston), Ain’t Nobody and Through The Fire (Chaka Khan), Bahemian Rhapsody (The Braids) and You Raise Me Up (Josh Groban) amidst wild cheers from her excited fans.
The gorgeous Angella proved to be a star on an international standard with also a great command of the stage and her audience. Angella is one of the few artistes who have proven to do live music to perfection.
By 9:30PM Serena Conference Centre was packed to capacity. The concert sold out.
In attendance were; Key government officials, Ambassadors, Top Diplomats, corporate company representatives, Angella’s fellow artistes, socialites, journalists, businessmen and women, sportsmen, health workers, cancer patients and cancer survivors.
Over 20M UGX in cash and pledges was given out by eminent personalities who attended the show in support of Angella’s Mulago Yaffe campaign, of which proceeds to go to the Uganda Cancer Institute.
Comedians Daniel Omara, Alachi and Agnes Akite took the crowd into thunderous laughter and amusement with their funny jokes.
There were inspirational speeches from;
Dr Orem Jackson the Director of Uganda Cancer Institute, The High Commission of S.A, Angella’s father H.E Boney Katatumba Pakistan Consul, the Uganda Bikers spokesperson Mr. Francis Gucci and Gideon Kirumira, Tycoon Godfrey Kirumira’s son.
These gentlemen praised and credited Angella as an award winning Philanthropist and a superstar who has made Uganda proud on a national and international platform.
It should be remembered that in May this year, she attended and performed at the UN World Humanitarian Summit in Turkey.
Mulago Yaffe was a merry high-end concert with other performances from Charmant Mushaga, Maurice Kirya, Steve Keys, Kenneth Mugabi and other artistes. The concert ended at 11:00 PM.
