AAR Health Services (U) Ltd Rolls Out Health Promotion Wellness Program For Members
The number of patients who are struggling with multiple chronic illnesses, like diabetes, cancer and heart disease, is growing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2014 that nearly 50% of seniors are living with two or more chronic diseases. This is up from 20% in 2013.
“Advanced chronically ill patients struggle with access in today’s health care delivery system, which requires them to travel to a physician or facility to receive routine medical services,” said Trevor Ariho – Ag. General Manager AAR Health Services (U) Ltd. “With AAR health promotion Wellness, we’ve leveraged our expertise to take the concept of a doctor’s office and broaden its reach to literally meet patients who need support most, where they need it most – in their home.”

The AAR Health Promotion Wellness program provides each patient with a primary care kit that features a Glucometer, thermometer and a portable blood Pressure machine. Through the program, patients are equipped with routine and preventive care tips and a kit with a direct access contact to care when the need arises at any time of day or night said Doreen Ndege, Head of Claims, case management and Underwriting at AAR Health Services.
AAR Heath Promotion Wellness is rapidly scaling the model to work with hospitals and health care providers to offer Home-Based Primary Care. We are proud to have championed a great initiative in the Ugandan Market for our clients said Diana Namubiru Ssewanyana head of Customer Care at AAR.
Six months ago on the 4th September 2014, we launched the AAR Cash Back which is a concept of paying a cash bonus to clients if they managed their health and remained at Zero utilization after the membership year. This idea just like the AAR Health Promotion Wellness Program was born out of the need to bring innovation to the insurance market added Trevor Ariho.
“We are committed to improving the quality of health care for Ugandans,” said Trevor Ariho “By working as a system, we hope to leveraged efficiencies in order to change the model of care for those with complex chronic conditions, ultimately improving their care and quality of life.”
To be eligible for the AAR Health Promotion Wellness program, patients must be referred by physician and qualify for the program. Once approved, each patient receives:
- A complete health assessment
- Around-the-clock medical support
- A patient-specific plan of care that evolves as needs change
- A nurse care manager to monitor patient care
- Education about medications, and health emergency preparedness
- A Health Promotion Wellness Kit.
“We’re convinced that by investing early in the health of these patients we’ll avoid costly services later on,” added Doreen Ndege. “We are sure to realize fewer visits to the hospital and emergency room and a better way of living for our clients”
Medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), high blood cholesterol, stroke, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are lifelong conditions. Therefore, it is important for everyone to take charge of their health and manage these conditions to lead a fulfilling life.
