Truck driver who tested positive for COVID-19 found in downtown Kampala

One of the 13 truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 was found in downtown Kampala.

The truck drivers who tested positive yesterday were being tracked down today by Ministry of Health tracking system and one was picked from downtown as he dropped cargo.

There is outcry from the general public urging government to hold these truck drivers until their results are out.

His presence in the busy Kisenyi downtown Kampala has caused fear among the members of the public who were present at the time of his discovery.

One of the traders who shops from where he was found, has expressed fear over the incident.

Among the 13 truck drivers confirmed for COVID-19 on 08 May 2020, 5 truck drivers were intercepted, evacuated and have been admitted at various hospitals in the country while 8 truck drivers self exited to their respective countries.

Meanwhile this Saturday 9th May, 2020, 2 new COVID-19 cases confirmed from 1,913 samples of truck drivers. This brings the total COVID-19 confirmed cases in Uganda to 116.
The new cases are: A 40 year old Kenyan truck driver who arrived via Malaba and a 30 year old Ugandan truck driver who arrived via Mirama Hills point of entry.

All 652 community samples have tested negative for COVID-19.

Total samples tested today: 2,565

Total number for samples tested at UVRI to-date: 56,767

Total number of truck drivers who have returned to their respective countries: 31
Active cases in Uganda: 28
Total discharges: 55.
