Kampala: The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) on Friday successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year ended 2025, followed by its 13th Graduation Ceremony, bringing together members, industry leaders, regulators, partners, graduates, and stakeholders to celebrate another year of institutional transformation, financial growth, and professional excellence.

Opening the Annual General Meeting, Board Chairman Mr. Michael K. Mugabi commended the Institute for remaining focused on delivering its mandate and creating value for stakeholders despite operating in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. The Chairman highlighted key achievements including the Institute’s rebranding under the new brand promise “Learn, Transform, Lead”; training of 4,062 professionals; launch of the Industry Competence Framework Project; development of the Green Finance Curriculum; the inaugural Research Conference and Research Agenda in partnership with Makerere University; the inaugural Bankers’ Awards bringing together over 322 industry leaders; and a 104.28% increase in profit after tax to UGX 8.4 million compared to a loss of UGX 195.0 million in 2024.

Speaking during the AGM, CEO of UIBFS Mrs. Masadde Goretti thanked members, regulators, development partners, and stakeholders for their continued support, noting that 2025 marked a defining year of transformation through innovation, research, partnerships, and professional development.

Following the AGM, the Institute held its 13th Graduation Ceremony, celebrating professionals who completed programmes in different banking fields. A total of 423 graduands were conferred Certificates and Diplomas by the Patron of UIBFS, the Governor Bank of Uganda Represented by the Director of Commercial Banking, Mr. Hannington Wasswa. Qualifications include the Chartered Banker Level 1- Certified Professional Banker, Chartered Banker Level 2- Executive Banker, Certified Credit Management, Diploma in Microfinance, Microfinance Apprenticeship Program, Foundation Certification in Banking and Financial Services, Compliance Certificate, Risk Management Certificate, Sustainable Finance Certificate, Trade Finance Certificate, SACCO Management Certificate, ACI Dealing Certificate, Anti-money Laundering Certificate, Certificate in Credit and Lending, plus Certificate in Credit Risk and Non-performing Loans Management.

In addition, UIBFS collaborates with Makerere University and Mountains of The Moon University to offer a Master of Arts in Financial Services, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Risk Management and Finance respectively.

The outgoing Council President, Dr. Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director Centenary Bank was commended for his steadfast support and commitment to the Institute.Graduates were encouraged to continue learning, transforming, and leading with integrity while contributing to the growth of Uganda’s financial services sector.
