2026 Updates: Sodo Aine Kaguta heads to Mawogola North as Shartis Kutesa bows out

Sodo Aine Kaguta is warming up for NRM primaries

The political tide in Mawogola North has taken a decisive turn as Hon. Shartis Musherure Kutesa officially announced her withdrawal from the 2026 parliamentary race, clearing the path for NRM flag bearer Godfrey Aine Kaguta, popularly known as Sodo.

This development sets the stage for what many are calling a strategic consolidation within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Sodo, a brother to President Museveni and a seasoned grassroots mobilizer, is now firmly focused on activating the constituency—meeting voters, reviving youth groups, and reigniting the base that nearly clinched him victory in 2021.

The last race between Sodo and Shartis in 2021 was fiercely contested, ending in a narrow and controversial loss for Sodo, despite strong local support. It exposed deep divisions within the NRM in Mawogola North, a constituency long associated with political influence, not least because Shartis is the daughter of former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa.

With her exit, the narrative is shifting. Many view Sodo’s return as a continuation of unfinished business, and his renewed bid as a chance to unify a constituency that has long been split between loyalty and legacy.

As Sodo hits the ground, the message is clear: this time, it’s about results, people power, and reclaiming the mandate.
