City lawyer told to refund UGX 39bn meant for tea farmers in Western Uganda

Parliament has ordered city lawyer, Patrick Katabaazi Kiconco to pay all the Shs39Bn he obtained from National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) meant for tea farmers in Kigezi in western Uganda.

He has been told to do so within 6 months or else he will face prosecution for the misappropriation of public funds.

This decision comes after the release of a report by Parliament’s Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) which states that Katabaazi should be held accountable for failing to fully remit the money to the tea nursery bed operators within a period of six months from the adoption of the report.

While he insists that he paid, non of the farmers the committee talked to received the said money.
