Patriotic League mobiliser Muhindo highlights jobs, household incomes in the movement’s development agenda

Kasese: The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobiliser for Kasese under Patriotic League officer number 182 Ambassador Johnny Muthahi Muhindo, has pledged to support Ugandans through grassroots mobilisation while encouraging communities to participate in the movement’s economic and development programmes.

Muhindo said during Kira Municipality Patriotic League Barazas on Saturday that the mobilisation should go beyond politics and focus on practical issues affecting households, including access to jobs, business opportunities, income generation and development.

” As PLU continues building its grassroots structures in Kira Municipality and other parts of Uganda around the political ambitions of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba I call on residents and potential PLU members to understand the organisation’s programme and participate in activities that its leaders say are intended to promote economic empowerment and socio-economic transformation,” he said during an interview.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AT THE CENTRE
According to Muhindo, ordinary Ugandans should be able to participate in economic opportunities through organised programmes, products and business activities.

He said his mobilisation efforts would seek to connect communities to available opportunities while encouraging people to work together to improve household incomes.

The message places economic empowerment alongside PLU’s wider emphasis on patriotism, accountability, national unity and development.

PLU has identified socio-economic transformation and accountability among its areas of focus, while its leaders have increasingly used grassroots engagements to discuss development and public-resource management.

FROM POLITICAL MOBILISATION TO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Muhindo’s role has become increasingly visible in PLU activities involving communities from Kasese.

In September, he was among PLU figures who helped bring 40 former opposition mobilisers from Kasese to the movement. The group comprised 38 former NUP members and two formerly associated with FDC, according to reports published at the time.

“The mobilisation was accompanied by calls for the new members to participate in development, accountability and community engagement,” Muhindo observed.

PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla told the new members that the fight against corruption should involve citizens and not only political leaders.

Muhindo’s involvement places economic empowerment within that broader grassroots mobilisation strategy.

JOBS AND HOUSEHOLD INCOMES
For communities such as Kasese, the question of economic opportunity remains closely connected to political participation.

Young people seeking employment, small businesses looking for markets and households trying to increase their incomes require programmes that can translate political promises into practical opportunities.

Muhindo has therefore emphasised the importance of supporting Ugandans to participate in economic activities and benefit from products and initiatives associated with PLU’s development message.

The broader challenge, however, will be demonstrating how such programmes translate into measurable employment, enterprise growth and higher household incomes.

MUHOOZI AND THE PLU POLITICAL MESSAGE
PLU’s mobilisation is taking place around Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, whom the movement has positioned at the centre of its future political agenda.

Reports on the Kasese mobilisation show that PLU leaders have been encouraging supporters to participate in grassroots structures while linking the movement to issues such as corruption, national unity, development and responsible citizenship.

Muhindo has also publicly called on people in Kasese to support Kainerugaba, although claims about the extent of support for him in the district remain political claims rather than independently established public-opinion findings.

MUHINDO’S TWO PUBLIC ROLES
Muhindo’s public activities span both diplomacy and political mobilisation.

Under Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Johnny Muthahi Muhindo lead as the Head of the Diaspora Department, whose mandate includes strengthening engagement with Ugandans abroad, encouraging diaspora investment, facilitating skills and knowledge transfer and providing information to the diaspora community.

His involvement in PLU mobilisation therefore places his public activities across two distinct spheres: his official diplomatic responsibilities and his political activities as a PLU figure.

The distinction is important as citizens assess messages delivered in different capacities.

THE KASESE CHALLENGE
Kasese’s economy is built around agriculture, tourism, trade and cross-border economic activity.

For the region’s young people and entrepreneurs, the long-term measure of any development programme will be whether it creates productive opportunities and strengthens household incomes.

Muhindo’s pledge therefore presents a practical challenge for PLU: turning mobilisation into programmes that citizens can see and measure.

That could include access to markets, business opportunities, skills, employment and productive investment.

THE ROAD AHEAD
As PLU continues expanding its grassroots presence, Muhindo says his focus will remain on mobilising Ugandans and connecting communities to economic opportunities.

For citizens, however, the ultimate test of any political or development programme remains implementation.

Political mobilisation can bring people together.

But sustainable development requires jobs, productive businesses, accountable institutions and measurable improvements in household livelihoods.

In Kasese, the conversation has now moved beyond political organisation to a broader question:
