Businessman and Gen. Muhoozi ally urges Ugandans to embrace peaceful civic action

By Brian Mugenyi

Kampala: Businessman Mohamed Ssebufu has praised Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for what he described as efforts to promote peace and fight corruption in Uganda, while rallying Ugandans to participate in a peaceful demonstration at the Turkish Embassy in Kampala on September 18.

Speaking at his NRM party mobilisation offices at Pine in Kampala on Monday, Ssebufu appealed to Ugandans to turn up for the planned demonstration while maintaining peace and discipline.

“I appeal to all Ugandans to participate in peaceful demonstration at Turkey Embassy on 18th this month,” Ssebufu said.

His appeal comes as his public association with activities linked to Gen. Muhoozi and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) continues to attract attention.

Ssebufu has in recent years been identified publicly with the political mobilisation surrounding Gen. Muhoozi. Recent reports have also described him as a former close security aide to the General, while a recent interview indicated his desire to join and support the PLU.

From Muhoozi support to PLU mobilisation
Ssebufu’s latest remarks come against the backdrop of renewed PLU mobilisation.

On September 1, 2026, the PLU publicly launched Gen. Muhoozi’s presidential bid for 2031 and beyond, with its leaders announcing the beginning of an endorsement process and plans to mobilise supporters across the country.

The development has placed supporters such as Ssebufu in a broader mobilisation environment around Gen. Muhoozi’s political message.

Ssebufu has recently thrown his support behind PLU activities, using his networks to rally citizens around what he says are causes of patriotism, peace, accountability and national development.

His latest appeal therefore fits into a wider pattern of grassroots mobilisation in which supporters of the General are seeking to build public participation around his political and patriotic agenda.

Praising Gen. Muhoozi
Ssebufu said Gen. Muhoozi deserves recognition for what he described as his contribution to peace and the fight against corruption.

He argued that peace remains essential for Uganda’s development, while corruption undermines public confidence and diverts resources that should benefit ordinary citizens.

According to Ssebufu, the fight against corruption should not be left to government institutions alone but should involve citizens willing to speak out and demand accountability.

His message was that peace and accountability should reinforce rather than contradict each other.

‘Let Ugandans make their voices heard’
Ssebufu said the September 18 demonstration should provide Ugandans with an opportunity to express themselves peacefully.

He urged participants to avoid violence, provocation and acts that could undermine the purpose of the mobilisation.

For him, the strength of the demonstration should be measured not merely by the number of people attending, but also by the discipline and clarity with which they communicate their message.

He particularly appealed to young Ugandans to become active participants in national affairs, saying their involvement is important in shaping the country’s future.

A familiar face in the Muhoozi mobilisation
Ssebufu’s background gives added significance to his latest appeal.

His name has previously appeared in reporting surrounding Gen. Muhoozi’s political mobilisation and PLU activities. He has also been described in public reporting as having served as a close security aide to the General.

His recent support for PLU activities comes at a time when the organisation is expanding its mobilisation following the September 1 announcement of Gen. Muhoozi’s 2031 presidential ambitions.

The PLU has previously organised nationwide activities around patriotism, unity, charity and support for Gen. Muhoozi. In April, for example, State House reported that the PLU’s activities around Gen. Muhoozi’s birthday run were framed around patriotism, unity, service and charity.

Peaceful participation
As the September 18 demonstration approaches, Ssebufu is calling on supporters and other Ugandans to participate peacefully and responsibly.

He said citizens should be able to express their views without threatening peace or public order.

For Ssebufu, the message is ultimately about peace, accountability and participation—and his appeal is for Ugandans to demonstrate that they can make their voices heard while remaining disciplined.

“I appeal to all Ugandans to participate in peaceful demonstration at Turkey Embassy on 18th this month,” he reiterated.
