Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi, the Kiryandongo District Woman MP, is what the district needed in terms of leadership. Her latest work exploits of the health sector in the district speaks volumes and shows how important she will be for the district.
She recently launched the Kiryandongo District Health Centre Outreach Programme where she toured all the health centers in the district and supervised their operations.
Together with the CAO, Deputy RDC, DPC, local leaders, health workers and hundreds of residents, many concerns such as inadequate maternal care and long distances to services, and the urgent need to upgrade Kichwabugingo Health Centre II to Health Centre III due to the high population in Bweyale Town Council which is hosting refugees.
Hon. Katusiime pledged to table these concerns before the Parliamentary Health Committee and formally engage Minister Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and PS Dr. Diana Atwine to secure staffing, medicines, equipment, funding and permanent infrastructure for Kiryandongo.
During the tour, she used the Health is wealth slogan!
She then visited Karuma HC II in Karuma Town Council and listened to challenges of understaffing, drug shortages, no power despite being near Karuma Dam and elephant invasions. She requested Ministry of Health to upgrade it to HC III and better services for the people.
On Day 3 of the Kiryandongo District Health Centres Outreach in Karuma Town Council at Karuma UPDF Health Centre II, she was joined by Asst RDC Natasha Gloria, CAO Athylem Kyaligonza, DPC Ojok Francis, Commander Karuma UPDF Maj. Peter Naduli, Mrs Kabayaga Jesca representing Hon. Linos Ngompek and local leaders.
The outreach focused on bringing quality healthcare closer to the people through community dialogue, health education, patient support and practical engagement with health workers.
She emphasized disease prevention, maternal and child health and equitable access for all.
Key challenges we found at Karuma UPDF HC II and these are: Acute shortage of health workers, Inadequate essential medicines, No functional lab, scan or diagnostics, No comprehensive maternity services for female soldiers, Poor sanitation & waste management, old pit latrine and Lack of microscopes and apparatus
Hon. Katusiime appreciated the management and staff of Karuma UPDF HC II for their dedicated service to soldiers, their families, surrounding communities and travelers on the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
She reaffirmed her commitment to present these concerns to relevant ministries for improved staffing, infrastructure and equipment.
She wrapped up her 4-day Health Outreach at Mutunda HC III with a record 500+ residents served!
She donated BP machines, glucometers, mama kits and more to boost maternal health.

Access to healthcare remains a big challenge in Kiryandongo. The MP reaffirmed her commitment to continue advocating for better staffing, medicines, infrastructure and modern equipment.
