Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi calls for voluntary blood donation

Kiryandongo District Woman MP Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi, has called on the people of Kiryandongo District and Uganda at large to embrace voluntary blood donation.

This comes after she attended the launch of the National Blood Donation Drive and Awareness Campaign at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala yesterday.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about excessive bleeding after childbirth, also known as postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), a serious obstetric emergency that can put a mother’s life at risk. Ensuring that hospitals and health centres have adequate and readily available supplies of safe blood is critical to saving the lives of mothers who experience severe bleeding during or after childbirth.

The launch brought together key leaders and stakeholders, including Dr. Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Minister for Local Government, alongside health professionals, development partners, members of the public and the event was graced by Charlotte Muhoozi Kainerugaba, wife of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who served as the Guest of Honour.

The campaign underscores the importance of voluntary blood donation and increased public awareness about the critical role that safe and adequate blood supplies play in saving lives. Blood donated by healthy volunteers can support mothers experiencing complications during childbirth, patients undergoing surgery, victims of accidents, and people facing other medical emergencies.

“As your Woman MP, I’m calling upon the people of Kiryandongo District and the whole of Uganda to embrace voluntary blood donation and actively support initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare services and saving lives in our communities.
Kiryandongo. Every donation matters. Every donor can make a difference. Let us all play our part. Donate blood. Save a life. Support mothers. Build a healthier Kiryandongo and Uganda,” Hon. Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi said.
