2026 Updates: Giramia Fiona, Afoyorwoth Mary Gorety in battle for Zombo District Woman MP seat
The race for the 12th Parliament in 2026 is hitting up as two youthful ladies have come up and announced their intentions to contest for the 2026 Zombo District Woman Parliamentary seat.
Ms Giramia Fiona is a famous presenter with Access FM in Arua and presents the best Alur Program in West Nile. She is the daughter of a veteran influential LC 1 chairman for Paidha Town Council Mr. Owonda Emillio and Mrs Jenety Owonda. Fiona’s dad has been the Local Council One Chairman for the last 40 years.
Radio Personality, Giramia Fiona, wants Zombo District Woman MP seat in 2026
She holds a degree in Journalism from Cavendish University Kampala and she is also the best Radio Presenter in Local Language in West Nile ( Alur).
She has been instrumental in advocating for good leadership in the district. She plans to support saving schemes for the people in the area as a way of boosting their economic muscle. She wants to see positive changes in the sectors of education, health, agriculture, roads and other forms of infrastructure.
Fiona is eloquent, fluent and confident in her actions and many see her as the best for Zombo District Woman MP seat.
Another upcoming candidate for Zombo District Parliament seat is Ms Afoyorwoth Mary Gorety who hails from Nyapea Sub County, Oyeyo parish, (Nya pei, coni Oyeyo).
The 33-year old is a Health worker married to Mr. Kebu from Eleze in Alangi Sub County and a Secondary teacher at St. Aloysious College Nyapea.
Her previous Leadership roles were Minister of Finance and Investment at Muni University between 2023/2024,
Guild Speaker – Muni University 2022/2023, Students representative at Muni University Council,
GRC- Faculty of Technoscience,
Chairperson St. Cecilia Choir, Project Assistant at St. Mary’s Chaplaincy and Chairperson Youth Apostolate.
Afoyorwoth Mary Gorety
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Muni University,
Diploma in Records and Information Management and
Certificate in Sign language.
She has previously worked as Health Information Assistant for Zombo District,
Records Assistant – Holy Family Hospital Nyapea.
She was awarded the
Outstanding leadership award as Minister of Finance for Muni University 2023/2024.
Certificate in Strategic planning and management and Enable
Certificate Digital Inclusion.

All these have vowed to unseat Hon.Esther Afoyochan, the current Zombo District Woman MP who is also a Parliamentary Commissioner.
