2026 Updates: Anywarach Joshua Carter roots for Okoro County seat as Joseph Sabiiti, Simon D’Ujanga joins the battle
Famous ex radio personality and politician Hon. Anywarach Joshua Carter is eyeing Okoro County in Zombo District Parliamentary seat in the 12th Parliament.
The former Paidha FM presenter is a well known figure in the region and commands majority support.
He is also the former Member of Parliament for Padyere County in Nebbi District but has since decided to switch to Okoro County in Zombo District formerly Nebbi.
With this announcement, he is surely likely to represent Okoro County in the 12th Parliament come 2026.
He is seen by many as an engine that will ignite non-stop development in Okoro County.
He has been joined in the battle by Joseph Sabiiti, the current press secretary to the Speaker. He is also on the ground mobilizing for support ahead of the big battle.
Former Okoro County MP Hon. Simon D’Ujanga is also set to bounce back for the seat. It is likely to be one of the biggest battles in the land.
The Background
Okoro County seat fell to Hon. Gabriel Okumu who came to the Constituency as a coffee buyer from Tororo and ended up as a resident after acquiring a local woman. He was granted support because he bought the residents coffee at a higher price than any other buyer.
This has not gone down well with the real sons of the soil Hon. Anywarach Joshua Carter and Joseph Sabiiti who have now joined the 2026 race to represent Okoro County in the 12th Parliament.
Before Okumu, Okoro was represented by Hon. Simon Giw D’Ujanga, the proprietor of Paidha FM where Joshua made his name as a radio presenter. Joshua could not contest against his former boss in 2016 out of respect and that’s why he opted for Padyere County and fortunately succeeded before he was defeated in 2021.
Hon.Simon Giw D’Ujanga lost to Hon. Gabriel Okumu who hails from Tororo and came as a coffee buyer. This is because people saw him as the real deal after he supported them very well by buying their coffee at UGX 300 from 200.
They said Hon. Simon was not doing enough for the constituency thereby opting for Okumu.
But to Joshua and Joseph, they see it as a shame to the Alur people for someone to come from Tororo as a ‘mudama’ and then goes ahead to represent the views and needs of Okoro County in Parliamentary.
